"Mr John Carmack has released his latest .plan for Quake 3 Arena, and it looks like a new test version will be released in mid September.
The news that there won't be a new level is
sure to provoke much muttering and moaning
from multiplayers, now getting pretty bored
with the three levels currently available. Single players, however, who up until now have had nothing to do but wander around empty arenas like a bored schoolboy with no mates, are getting bots to play against.
The news for hackers itching to add their own
weapons and features is even better. The test
is to be released together with the source for all the Virtual Machine modules, so that people can see how to create their own add-ons. The Quake 3 executable will also be configured to accept user-modified modules without complaining. To give you some tools to create modules with, the modified LCC and q3asm tools for compiling Quake code will also be released.
And a level editor? Nope, sorry folks. No-one is allowed to create maps for Quake 3 until it hits the shops."
