    is it just me????

It seems that new does not mean better!

Kingpin locks up, Quake 3 locks up, Decent 3 and AvsP locks up etc...?? What's going on.

I've uninstalled the v5.15 drivers with the uninstall utility and reinstalled v5.21 and still the same So I've reinstalled the old v5.15 drivers and now everything's back to normal.

Anyone else have any suggestions or ideas or ANYTHING? Grrr. heehe. oh well....

For our info - what's your system Rodney (www.3dGameMan.com)?

P.S. Perhaps hear other readers comments before we go slating the latest drivers on the page yeah? maybe it's a rodney-prob rather than a G400 prob?!?!?

Hmm... performance loss sure... but no locking up bugs.

        I'll keep testing.

It would help greatly if people would report system specs etc rather than just posting a complaint. That way we can see if there is a common factor with those having problems as not everyone is.

Yup - I concur - System Shock2 was fine (well reasonable - but gamma probs) with 5.13/15, but its now suffering from tearing et al. Appalling quality. System spec is exactly the same - soooo, 5.21 IS the proverbial lemon.

To update my status, performance is still adequate w/ 5.21 (I don't bother with benchmarks, as long as it's playable and pretty ).

However, the Re-Volt demo still freezes, and expendable still wont launch at all (imediately crashes to the desktop).

                  I have re-installed win98se from a fresh format.

I get weird performance results in Q3 going from 5.13 to 5.21:

Q3demo1 got worse from ave 20.4 to 12.8 fps
Q3demo2 got better from ave 23.4 to 25.1 fps

                    System:

                    G400 DualHead (non-MAX)
                    Celeron 333@500 Mhz
                    ASUS P2B 1.10 M/Board
                    192Mb Ram
                    SBlive!
                    IBM 7200rpm 10GB EIDE drive

PGPtray and NAV5 running in taskbar with quickdesk
(Also still got a creative TNT control tab visible in my display properties 'cos I haven't had time for a re-install of 98 yet)

                    Quake3 settings:

Graphics options set to Highest quality (then resolution set to 1024x768 and texture detail set to max)

                    Sound set to high quality

All other game options like brass ejection etc. set to ON except for Vsync

32-bit Z-buffering enabled in matrox options, but no other registy hacks/tweaks carried out.

Well, you make the second user with nearly the exact same Q3Test 1.08 results that I've seen with the latest drivers. Just for the record, since I haven't posted the info here before (that I can recall), my system is made up the following primary components:

                        Abit BE6
                        256 MB Siemens 125Mhz PC100 SDRAM (2x128)
                        P3-450 (o/c to 558)
                        Matrox Mill G400Max (o/c to 162/214)
                        32x LG branded IDE CD-ROM
                        1x MATSUSHITA IDE DVD-ROM
                        Adaptec 2940UW
                        Yamaha 4416S CDRW
                        SbLive!Value (with SB16 emulation disabled)
                        Generic V2-12MB (for Tribes, etc.)
10/100 PCI NIC (hooked to a cable modem)

With this setup and PowerDesk 5.13 I get 24.6 FPS average in q3demo1 with everything set high (including sound, no cfg/reg tweaks), but only 15.1 FPS average with the same settings and PowerDesk 5.21.

I was hoping that these new drivers would live up to expectations, so that I could finally leave everything maxed in Q3Test while playing, since certain areas of that map tend to cause noticable slowdowns with the 5.13 drivers. As it is, with those drivers, I only need to turn textures to 16bit, and leave everything else high, and it's great. Too bad, the extra image "boost" with the 32bit textures is tre-cool.

                        AMD Athlon XP2100+ (o.c. to 1845MHz)

After I resolved a driver conflict with the 5.13 drivers (they don't like the latest Aureal Vortex 2 ref drivers..or vice versa), I had no problems with the 5.13 drivers, other than they could be much faster. After doing the Matrox uninstall dance and upgrading to 5.21, I lost about 10% at 1152x864 on Q2 (I didn't test other res because I don't play them). 3dMark same scores as 5.13, and Freespace 2 locks up as soon as the mission starts. So I guess I'm back to 5.13
