    Ooh! I'm a MURCette now!
I hope that isn't anything like a Rockette, I never did learn how to dance very well...
And I'm certainly not going to shave my legs and start wearing those glittery outfits!

Hecubus, My friend works in a teaching laboratory with numerous pcs. When I am in visiting, I can pretty much set up as many computers as I want. I don't have the time/patience to set up more than 15 or so.

I think the maximum I could do is 50.

Read on another thread about how the text client was so much faster. I was wandering-

Is there a text client that will work in Win98? Is it really that much faster than running the graphic version minimized? If I can cut my time per WU in half, then watch out!!! But I daught the differeance can be that great, please prove me wrong.

The text version for WIN98 is
            i386-winnt-cmdline.exe at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/unix.html

On my PIII, I found it to be around 20% faster than the graphical version.

                Stephan,
Don't give up yet! I don't run the text client yet, so I'm of no help ,but check if you can right click on the SETI tray icon and goto preferences, and choose conect automaticaly, thats how to do it in GUI version. Maybe the text version has something simular?
If not the US/CANADIAN people here are mostly at work now, so chech back after midnight or tommorrow your time, I'm sure someone can help you .

                  Thanks Mark.
I’m using the GUI client on other comp and have no problem, thing is that Brian say that the text version should dial automatically, but my don’t, so, either I have a problem in my NT installation or I’m doing something wrong.
I have also tried to fix this temporary by writing a short bat file to do multiple WU without conecting using things like
                  cd one
                  seti.exe -stop_after_process
                  if errorlevel -1073741510 goto stop
                  cd..
                  cd two
                  seti.exe -stop_after_process
                  if errorlevel -1073741510 goto stop
                  :stop

but what ever i do, –stop_after _process don’t seem to work, it still try’s to connect, but without dialling the modem.
I will give it one more day, and then it’s out of this computer

Stefan who is starting to hate NT

                    JSB,

Even though you are running the character client, you can still connect automatically. Just configure (if you are running it) Internet Explorer to connect automatically, and to disconnect if idle for more than xx minutes (you get to pick here), and then stop, restart the character client. When it's ready it will make a sockets call, that an IE/Winsock component will intercept, and automatically dial the internet.

If someone could help me with my dial up problem I would do 4 more wu a day on my dual xenon rig, I cant make the character version to automatically dial up thru the modem, if I manually connect and then run seti it do connect to the server, exactly how do you tart char seti to do the connection?

                      Stefan is giving up

Once in a while, I have connection problems. I end up reinstalling the modem from scratch and this usually solves the problem.
