Seti@home & murc, part 6

Hi Mega,
No screensavers here. Just a lot of memory hog apps such as Arcview and our database gui(http://www.elp.gov.bc.ca/clrs/). This PII 300 has 128 megs of ram and just now I checked my memory usage in NT task manager and it is over 150 megs. My hard drive swaps all day long. Our sys admin doesn't care as long as the thing works. A few weeks ago I was running some Arcview scripts that did a lot of database inquiries and polygon manipulations and watched the memory usage go over 600 megs. Another thing, we are unable to defrag our hard drives because the software has never been purchased. Talk about being short sighted. Hi, Ho, Hi, Ho, its back to work I go.

I just downloaded version 2.4 of the text client for winnt. Anybody know if it is any faster? If nobody's tried it I'll let you know how it is...

Well, I just read on their homepage that the members from another team joined them yesterday. Let's first see how many WUs/day they manage to do now. No point in declaring any wars we can't win. (Ahh, that's the Dutchman in me; always pragmatic...)

BTW: AnandTech is hot on our heels again as well... So cut the crap everybody: bring out the whips and let that silicium crunch!

A note on v2.4 (nt cmdline)
This system doesn't hit the disk as much as previous versions so in the rooms I have seti running in are now much quieter, This seems to stop the caretakers from turning off the machines.

I have not noticed any speed increase in the unit production.

Not getting the freaking machines until Monday at best. Also getting parts for 700 Athlon machine for client, should be able to get 10 Setis out of it during burn in.
