AMC: that sounds like you're using the screensaver-version. Set it to "run always", and "blank after 0 minutes". A better solution would be to use the i386-winnt-cmdline.exe version. Get it from http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/unix.html .

Way to go Maggi! Fire up those fridges again .

In the lower ranks (but rapidly rising), Xenosynth isn't doing too bad either...

Hui Hui Hui, if Xenosynth continues that, he will be at us Top 10'ers in about 2 Months.
Keep up the good work !!

I'm running the commandline version under Win 98, and I'm averaging about 8 hours /WU on my P3-500, compared to other people's posts this seems a bit slow to me, anything I can do to speed it up ?

            Snikka,

We (Alpha Centauri) have also some PIII 500 running. They also need 8 hr's a WU.
            I think that is normal.

My next question would then be, if I were to get a new processor, which would be faster for running SETI - Athlon, Coppermine or Culeron ?

Now I might be able to get 2 Culerons for the same price as 1 of the other as I have RAM and harddrives enough for 2 systems.

Good question. For me it seems that Athlons and CuMines are Clock for Clock the same speed at seti.
                What do the others think??

I believe that Coppermines are typically faster than Athlons. Celerons are (because of their smaller cache) generally not very good for seti. However, two Celeron-systems are quite likely to beat one PIII.

Whether your choice of processor should depend on seti WU-times? I'll leave that up to you. I'd rather consider it a bonus...

                      Hi Martin

Celerons benefit from their full speed L2 cache, even if it's smaller.

That new Celeron-II (Cumine with 128KB L2 cache) should easily outperform an 'ordinary' Katmai, but a real Coppermine should stomp both. Main letdown for Athlons are their 'slow' L2 caches. If those were also at full core speed, you'd have one heck of a CPU.

I'll let you folks now how the 600s Cumines do their job as soon as the rig's up and working.

                      Cheers,
                      Maggi

I thought Athlon outperformed Coppermine due to it's great FPU

                          <FONT SIZE=3>Yoohoo ... I'm baa-hack<FONT SIZE=2>

Sorry for being unavailable that long, but I had too much work to do and was co-organizing our annual LAN party.

This year for the first time we had more than 1000 visitors that came from everywhere in Europe and our two main network switches reported data traffic of 6.2 TeraBytes form Easter Friday until Monday ...

Needless to say had better things to do than taking care of my SETI stats ... LOL

Anyway ... I was sort of shocked that Alpha Centauri had passed me already before I fired up again those eight MIPS R10000.

Quick summary of my 'crunching farm':

1 G4-450 taking ~6 hours with the screensaver
                          8 G3-350 ~10 hours with screensaver

                          1 double P3-450 ~8 hours cmd-line version
                          1 P3-550 ~don't know how long cmd-line
                          1 P2-300 ~way too long cmd-line
                          1 Cel333A-500 ~8 hours cmd-line

                          8 MIPS R10000-200 ~don't know - must check

                          soon to be added:

                          1 double P3-600E ...

... most of the above do not run 24/7, but more like during the night time when the machines are not needed for working.

                          Cheese !

When do you expand the total list to 200 or more names? So I don't fall off as I'm still dropping??
