which client should i use???

go to seti download page and you will find these right next to each other....

which one should i use, i mean both worked, and i found the i486 one better than the i386... which is the one i currently use...

what is the difference between the two?

Try the 2.70 GUI client. It was much faster on my PIIIs and PIIs (30-40% faster). Once in a while there's a slow one, but 9 out of 10 are very fast. Just make sure you run it minimized and activate the blank-screen screen saver.

If you must ask, you can't legally get ver. 2.70 Besides, even if legally, there is no intelligent reason to run it any longer.

As for the two other clients, as the names imply, i486 is optimized for non-intel-machines and i386 is optimized for intel-machines. Since you're using amd, you should use the non-intel.

nehalmistry if you don't care about what Rattledagger just told you use 2.70 the only differece between it and 2.4 is that 2.70 is faster! If you do care try the i486-nonintel-winnt-cmdline on some systems it's faster than i386-winnt-cmdline!

I found i386 to be faster on my non-intel machines than i486. Time them yourself and use the one thats faster for you. Seti recommends i386 unless you have problems with it.

if i leave i486 idle, i should get ~9%/hour while if i leav i386 idle... i should get ~6%/hour. .... i guess i should stick to i486 then....

ya know what... they should make one that can utilize mmx instructions... wouldnt that be dandy..
