  • Gui-3 for win&mac is out!

The gui-versions is out on the normal 3 download-mirrors for seti@home, I'm guessing ftp.cdrom.com to follow in a couple of hours.
Note, there isn't any "official" on the download-page yet, but since 2 different linux-versions and two other versions is out I think we can say it's the real thing.
    There are two different mac-versions.

Oh, yes, for the people don't knowing, the mirrors are:
    ftp://serendip.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/
    ftp://setidata.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/
    ftp://alien.ssl.berkeley.edu/pub/
    ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/setiathome/

Hopefully the nt-cmd-line is coming real-soon-now!

I would think speed is the same as 2.76.
The big question is how fast will the CLi version be.

Well, as long as it's doing good science I'm happy.
I'm not in it for the competition (snort)

It seems to run as fast as 2.70 under w2k, too eary to tell under Linux but people in the newsgroups are claiming a 25% decrease in WU times.

The final WU Seti 3.0 time was 6hr 19m.
That same WU took 7hr 52m running Seti 2.4

                    (Linux)

                      ACK!!!!!
Just upgraded one of my Xeon-boxes to 3.0.. (Linux 686 static version).
                      That system's got dual 550MHz P3-Xeons with 1MB
of cache, and previous speeds varied between 3:30 - 5 hours per WU. Now it looks like the first WU is going to take 6-7 hours..

Ah well.. Looks like production is going down due to this.. I have a LOT of Xeon boxes!

On the positive note though, a Coppermine-866 is now looking at well below 4 hours where it used to be 6+ hours. I guess we gotta upgrade..
Anyone want to buy a fleet of Dual Xeon workstations?

                      Krell

i used the ars workunit to get the times to compare the two different versions.

How fast? From Guru's link I get about 4.8kb/sec on my 56kbps modem.

Point 1: As you probably already knows, the gui-versions for win&mac is officially released.

                              Point 2, download:
Well, seti@home is only legally available via the ftp-mirrors.

                              Point 3, Speed:
I don't know for the cmd-versions and linux, but for win&mac it's the same speed as ver. 2.76, because it's the same release except changed version number.
                              The mac-os-X-release is "public beta"
Except for one mac& one win-versions, the only other 2.76-beta was for Solaris. I don't know if this too is the same version, but probably yes.

Since it haven't been any nt-cmd-beta-clients, the actual speed is impossible to say before they are released.
My experience with the gui-version is that the average speed should probably be faster than cmd-2.04, but as always impossible to know since dual-machine.

Guru as beta-tester? I don't recollect he posting about ver. 2.66, but I've got short memory.
