Windows NT (and 2000) Level 2 Cache Tweak
Run REGEDIT (if you don’t know what regedit is then suggest that you don’t try this tweak) the following path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session
Manager\Memory Management\SecondLevelDataCache You will probably find the value 0. Change it to reflect the size of the L2 cache of your machine (watch out for the setting of the Hex/Decimal Radio Buttons).
Say I have 256kb cache on my CPU, Do I put 0.256 in here, 256, 262114 or what?

    Steve

Ok - I was a little slow in seeing this thread but it looks like it's all fixed! Enter the decimal value in KB of your L2 cache.

512Kb (Pentium II, early Pentium III) = 512
                    256KB (Latest Pentium IIIs (E/B/EB) = 256
                    128KB (Celeron 300A to 733 and above) = 128

Is this the kind of format that you's would like? It is meant to be the more 'advanced' guide to Seti under Windows but is everything clear enough?

How's about my Getting Start in Seti guide for GUI3? Have any of you's viewed it or actually used it?

In other words - any feedback on the usefulness of the site?

                    Thanks,

Got a mail today consernig the same Q as SteveC asked exept it also included this Q:
                      >If you can rapidly explain, I would also appreciate to know what does this affect in my system... does DataCache mean there will be no space left for "instructions"? Or does windows need this because he can't detect how many cache I have? looks like silly..:-)
                      >
Basicly if you choose to not change this registry key, the OS will call on the Hardware Abstraction Layer for retrieval of the L2 cache size when you boot your computer. If this fails a default value of 256KB is used for all logon sessions on that boot session! I don't know if this aplyes for "new" CPU's but since many people claim it gives an performance boost...

How should this be handled if you have two CPU's? Switch to decimal and make the value 512K? Or switch to decimal (it defaults to hexidemical) and enter 1024K?

I'm running dual 500 MHz Katmai's on my W2K machine. It's pretty much devoted to SETI right now.

The OS assumes both CPU's have an equal amount of L2 cache!

Edit: In your case you should give the value of 512!
