• SETI crunching

    Hi Guy's

i'm new here and also am about to join the Maxtrox users group on the SETI site. i just wanted to know, is the program about to take advantage of multi-processor machines?? because i'm using a IBM intellistation with 512 RAM, Dual P3 500's and of course a G400 Max. But my play machine which is also crunching the "WU's" is a P3 850 with 256 RAM and it blows through them in about 4-6 hours. Is there a way to have Seti@home threaded to take advantage of the SMP i have at home?

    thanks for your time

oh yeah i'm sorry i forgot to mention that it takes about 6-8 hours on my Intellistation which i thought should be faster if it's able to take advantage of the SMP. And i'm using ver 3.00 of the seti software.

      Welcome!

As far as I know, there is only one way to take advantage of dual CPU's, and that's to run two SETI clients simultaneously.

If you're using the command line version, use the command line switch -cpu N, where N is the cpu you want to use. So you'll need two shortcuts, with the appropriate cpu number in each. I'm not sure if this also works with the screen saver version...

Use SetiDriver and set processes to 2. Its also excellent for caching units..

And, you can use SETI Driver with SETI Spy.

Go here http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/faq.htm#FAQ%202.13 to find out how to do it.

              It is FAQ number 2.13
