A little add to Fred about caching:
Every time you start Genome it makes a random number to determine that path it shall choose. As I've heard it, if you stop&restart in a wu you will make a new random number the consequent analysis follows. Then done with a wu, a new number is used if the same wu is re-processed.

The next version of Genome@home shall probably move the upload/download to another thread, so the crunching isn't stopped. It will probably also enable caching of more than one wu.

As for my calculations, it seems the crunch-time isn't linear with aa-length, but it still seems the new client is faster than the old.

Hey Rattledagger (or anyone else for that matter), I got a question for you :

If you want to change the the username and teamname you're processing for, is it ok to change just the ghclient.cfg file??? If so, when do you think the changes will take place?

I'm not sure that my friends' genes are all showing up on the standings and I don't know why. I know there were errors in the names they entered, I we tried to fix it that way...

Got any other suggestions, other than uninstalling and installing again?

      A bit confused...

And here's a quick a link to the little Genome page

I'll try Folding soon maybe, or any others (DCypher mentioned by Wulffman) possibly.

            Welcome Guyver to Genome@Home [MU]!

saw your first completed WU, and since it takes about 30ish hours to complete, it was certainly cause for celebration!

Is there anyone else joining as we speak?

Been there, done that, but thanks anyway!

I have to say that I prefer this version since I've rebooted at will since the last 12hrs (stupid Win98 ).

Faster? I don't know, but I do like the no need for caching part... I think that I'll talk about the program to the rest of my team.

              Bye!
              Fred

I don't really have any interest in folding, but I might give dcypher a try later on.

New client? Didn't I post about 0.91 for, mmm since this is 19., for 4 days ago?

Unfortunately, we've down to 23 again with 3 members. Anyone heard how CHHAS is doing?

                  A couple of bugs:
If you stop the client before it has done the first 1/30-part, you must download a new wu. Even then you've done a whole cycle you can't continue if you stops here.
Genome@home only tries to upload result then done with a full cycle. If you stop before 1/30, the client will download a new wu and wait for the next round before trying to upload all results.
I've seen mentioned that a 100 amino-acid-unit crashes. Longer and shorter works.

I don't know about CHHAS, but my production will increase in the next few days. My team members also thought that G@H has a better chance of being useful. Some will go in the Narc account, others might start on their own. Results will start to come in about... two days ago.

Hmm strange... I did notice that it took a long time to restart a WU in that section, but I didn't notice that a new WU was downloaded. Is it possible that it doesn't occur everytime?

                    Thanks for the infos.

First, welcome to Mich, who joined with our shortest wu yet.

                      Back down to 18.

It's probably enough to edit ghclient.cfg, but the new info is probably not used with the already downloaded wu, even if the wu takes a new circle.
If it's not enough to edit ghclient.cfg, you must delete id.dat.
BTW, is it narcissus with 26.58 wu?

If the group-number is incorrect, the group is atleast not credited for the work. Actually, the same user can crunch for different groups at the same time. Since the wu is following the group-number, no-one can "leave" a group he has returned wu for.

Yep that that narcissus with 26.58 should be ours. us non-Unix using types aren't used to case-sensitive stuff.

But I believe that the problem now has been resolved, and we should get a few genes in the next 12-24 hours. Thanks for the id.dat info, I'll ask them to delete after the next upload if all else fails.

The fact that no one may leave the group with his WUs might be something that the others might consider after what happened yesterday.

Rattledagger, I believe that you're the team founder, so here's something quite interesting :

                          Team info addon

Of course now all that we need is a team logo and a website!

No, I'm not the founder, but I got the first result. I think it's Pace that is the founder.

I've actually completed 2 units and am a little past 1/3 of the 3rd unit in about 32-36 hrs....

I've also started it up on one of my Linux boxes.

                              I'm now split 50/50 - ME - 933'OC'd SETI,
                              Linux 850@952 SETI, W2K - 650@866 Genome, and Linux 800@896 Genome...

                              I started Genome @ 9:45AM CST Sunday Feb. 18th.

It is now 9:10PM CST Monday Feb. 19th.

Not quite 36 hrs passed, and am at sequence 11 of 30 on the third unit on my 2K box. This particular unit appears to have died twice so far.

My linux box is now at 14 hrs and is at unit 26 of 30 on it's first protein set.

Hey G@H is up to 16th position, and only 3 WUs to germany (for now )!

Pretty impressive machines Guyver, Narcissus's current production (the team) is C466(mine), C266@400, PIII833, double PII400, and maybe one or two more (that would be another PIII and a PI). Your production should be pretty close to mine... Me thinks .

What do you mean by "died twice so far"? Do you mean that it's on it's third time around?
I'm currently 23/30 out of a 99aa sequence, which takes about 1d22h on my machine... Guess it's time to get another processor eh? I should upload tomorrow morning.
