First, welcome to the 10 new crunchers this week.

This time the negative numbers is for the people losing ground compared to last week.

Production from Sun Mar 11 15:12:50 PST 2001 to Sun Mar 18 15:13:04 PST 2001.
Total Murc-production this week: 11529,93 wu, 647 genes, 42 of 49 active crunchers.

    First!

    Thanks Rattledagger!
Welcome to the new crunchers, your help is badly needed as DSL production has risen a lot in the last week.

Yes, now then the network-problems seems to be solved, the production can start again, and we can recruit more crunchers.

We almost got OcUK but they managed to pull away Well, crunch on! Just loaded Genome on my Celeron machine. You know, the one that too 40hrs to do a SETI WU

Yippie!! I can send my units again
The two 'lost' ones were sent yesterday. Only strange is that I got a new unit in now (named input.pdb.2) which it will never ever use

Hehe, running two Genome instances worked. No noticable slowdowns, so I'm getting pretty much double production

OK - System changes now in effect.

                  System #1 - W2K Pro - Dual PIII-933 running 3 sessions of Genome (each getting 66% of a processor)
System #2 - WME - Mono PIII-1000 running 1 session of Genome (may switch to 2)
                  System #3 - Linux - Mono PIII-850 running 2 sessions of Genome
                  System #4 - Linux - Mono PIII-650@866 running 2 sessions of Genome

                  Oh yeah, almost forgot
                  System #5 - WME - Mono PIII-800 running 1 session of Genome (GF's PC)

                  Hope this helps...

Duron 650@900, 196 MB ram, running 2 sessions.
Celeron 366, 32 mb ram, running 1 session.

Hopefully the Celeron will be replaced by a P3-500 (Katmai) in the near future.

Isn't it a little bit suspicius that it is possible to obtain better throughput when running two processes in parallel?

Two processes should really screw up the L2 cache and produce less.

I suspect there is a possibility of either a design flaw or intentional waiting in the client software.

                        Regards

Since it seems some is getting much better throughput running two instances of Genome, it's interesting to find out how much faster than seti@home the same machine is. I guess most has run seti@home on the same machine before, so no new times must be made here.

                              To calculate, use this:
                              seti@home cpu-time * [0,3 * aa-length / run-time g@h] = ?

If running multiple genome@home-instances, add together the [ ] before multiplying with seti@home cpu-time. Remember to use run-time, not cpu-time for genome, then running multiple genome@home-instances.

                              As example, for this machine:
                              aa-length 58; run-time 13 h; seti@home-cmd 3.03, 10h/wu average.

                              10 * [0,3 * 58 / 13] = 13,38
Therefore, genome@home is 13,38 times faster than seti@home.

Remember to use seti@home ver. 3.03-times then comparing, preferably cmd-versions.
