  • Missing file error for distributed folding

I've been getting an error since I upgraded. After extended periods of time running seemingly after an upload, I get an error message about a missing file. If I get it again, I'll post it. Anyone else seen this or is it just me?

Did you download the new client? Should be ~8MB!

I did twice, but I found it in their list of known bugs:

        <blockquote><b>From their <a href=http://www.distributedfolding.org/bugs.html>bug page</a>,</b><i>
Missing/Corrupt sspred.val (after running for several hours)
This bug was discovered, occurring due to the switch to the new CASP protein. This is a known bug that will be fixed in the next version. A corrected version has already been posted (31/5/2002).
Alternately, it can be fixed by copying the sspred.val file from the install directory of the program to the \system directory.
        WinNT, Win2000: copy to C:\winNT\system32
        Win9x,Win ME: copy to C:\windows\system
        WinXP: copy to C:\windows\system32
        </i></blockquote>

          Gave Up.

Came home today and got a Win32 Exception -1073741819. Switch to command line. I wish they had something like the command line but it minimized to the system tray. That would be a bit better. Do they have a suggestion page?

            Actually High_Jumbllama,

I've got it hidden in 2K without making it a service. I'm using the Distributed folding GUI, and it gives an option to Hide the DF client. The url is http://gilchrist.ca/jeff/dfGUI

I meant for a non-screensaver version. In any case, I just found out that other computers on my home network could see my computer but not the other way around. I'm going to give the GUI client a try and see if that was affecting it as well.

              Edit:
As for the animated GIF, gotta love TV cards. It is the final time he powers up in Atonement before he self detonates.

              Edit 2:
Another thing, 98SE won't close the command line utility, Grrr.

                  High_Jumbllama,

I was talking about the command line client, thats all I use as I don't use any screen saver. The program is just a little GUI that can control the client and can be minimized to the tray. Look at its webpage.

About the Gif, too bad I can't see those episodes in my country yet.

I did not know about it at the time. Geesh.

I found it after all the problems. In any case, I just did a complete system reinstall for other reasons and will be trying again.
