Since this project "will stop" after a couple of weeks we decided to change project!
According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

Hello again from Team Picard. This is the latest discussion out of stanford regarding genome.

please note that according to Vijays latest statement, the new combined
FAH/GAH client will allow for adding the generated credits to both FAH2 or
GAH 0.99 stats. You will decide where the credits go by giving the team
number during configuration of the new client. Clients wit team numbers
above 100000 will send their credits to GAH 0.99 stats, those with team
numbers below 100000 will add their credits to FAH2 stats. Nothing to be set
to zero, teams can be kept and nothing to worry about GAH 0.99 "dying".
There is just a new version with (most likely) some new features.

All the best and heads up,
      Michael.

        GH 0.99

No way I am going to waste more processing time on the gh 0.99 project.

With those guys (stanford.edu) being unable to accomplish migrating the present stats to a new client - I distrust their abilities to do useful stuff with the wu's altogether.

        Waste of CPU cycles.

Here is the latest update from Stanford. Sorry to hear you have become so upset with the project but I do understand.

          From: "Stefan Larson" <smlarson@s...>
          Date: Fri Jun 14, 2002 2:10 pm
          Subject: Folding@h... released today!

          Hello all,

The inclusion of the Genome@h... algorithm into Folding@h... is complete
and ready to go live today. Existing Genome@h... users are encouraged to
          upgrade to this new client.

You can run the F@h... client while still remaining wholly a part of the
          Genome@h... project.

The F@h... client has the capability to run exclusively G@h... workunits. All
you need to do is configure the F@h... client with your existing G@h... team
number, upon first installation. All F@h... clients run with valid G@h... team
numbers will process exclusively G@h... workunits and all completed units will
be credited to the Genome@h... stats system. Please note that all valid
          registered G@h... teams are identified by team numbers greater than 100,000;
G@h... users without a team can enter team number 100,000 itself to remain part
          of the Genome@h... project.

If you're happy with your current G@h... client (0.99), there's no mandatory
          requirement to upgrade or
change your configuration in any way.

          F@h... client ==> http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

          Thanks - Stefan

Don't worry, I have gone to a better place...

Distributed Folding: no more crashing clients because of bad work units, no more x86 only clients.....

And if I recall things correctly laura offered them (G@H) 50GHz of server power(with all the trimmings SICI etc. for free but stefan (Idiot #1) was not able to fill out the "registration forms" (name add, shoe # etc.) so they did not get them!

                Heya!

I wanted to set the record straight on that one.

Basically Stefan and I had come to what I felt was an agreement on helping out on the project. He suggested that I go recruit the people that I was going to have help out.

Which I did. He was to get us the appropriate NDA/Proprietary Rights/etc agreements post-haste, and was given the fax number of my personal legal counsel. He had even 'approved' my recruiting schpeal. And after all of that, disappeared. Didn't reply to another email. Left me holding the bag with the people that I had gotten commitments from.

Part of that was the offer to donate some equipment to help with redundancy. I don't think 50ghz is the number - that was about the size of my personal farm at the time - but it was substantial.

Anyway, that's all gone and past. I appear to have one slow machine still tossing WU's at G@H that I haven't found yet. Probably one of the house servers. When I find it I will have shaken the proverbial G@H dust from my feet and that, as they say, will be that. I don't traverse their boards any longer and I don't poke fun at their ... fascinating ... methodologies of directing a project.

I wouldn't hazard to guess the scientific value of their research other than to point-out that I'd expect a researcher of such calibre to have decent organizational skills.

                ------

It is my personal opinion that the part about the "name" and "shoe size" are probably pretty accurate, however.

                ------

Thanks for the opportunity to set things "straight" !

                --- Lara
