        Upcoming update
There is a client/screensaver update scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2003, at 10:00 am EST. Now that the algorithm changes have been tested, we would like to release the update with sufficient time to ensure a smooth transition before the holidays, despite the fact that we have not yet reached the posted 5 billion target.

            Latest updates:

            01/15/2004
            New backend configuration
We are developing a new server configuration on the backend which will allow for more efficient result uploads and processing, and should eliminate upload timeouts and the errors associated with them, such as missing or wrong .val and .trj files. This configuration will come into effect with the next protein update, so as always please report any problems to trades@mshri.on.ca

            Energy function in development
A new scoring function is currently undergoing rigorous testing. If we find it to be more effective than the current function, it will be incorporated into the next update.

            01/14/2004
            New daemon version
A new auto-update daemon is available on the Download page. You must use this new version in order to have it properly detect new patches and download them. It seems that the previously posted correct version has disappeared, so we have posted the correct up-to-date version again. If your daemon did not get the auto-update yesterday properly, this should fix the problem.

            About the new protein
The new protein is 105 residues long, and it is one we have worked on in Phase I. It is being used in order to compare results for the new algorithm. For the time being, we are keeping generation size at 100 structures.

              Backend-compatible client: beta-testing
A new client made to be compatible with the new structure of our backend will be posted on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 for beta testing. This is a call for beta-tester volunteers. If you are able to test it, we appreciate your time and effort. As in Phase II testing, it will have separate statistics from the main website. More details will follow.

                Backend-compatible client: beta-testing news
The beta-backend client seems to have had a few hitches. Though it is processing uploads fine, we have had to disable the stats computations for now, as over the weekend the process caused problems on the beta server. Once it has been resolved, stats computation on the beta machine will resume. For those of you looking for the beta client to test, the Windows version is available here and the Linux one here. Please note the Linux one requires GLIBC 2.3.2. In each case, just overwrite your existing installation with the new executable (or copy it over a freshly installed version of the latest client). Bugs should be posted in the Online Forum (linked in the left sidebar). Thanks for your help in improving our system!

New slower client available; FTP problems resolved
There is a complete set of new packages available on the download page with a much slower client. None of the code is changed, and it is still the same protein, but there are now 200 structures per generation. The new client should half the frequency of uploads to the server, as well as the amount of buffered data. Since this is a faster protein, we can do more sampling per generation, which should lead to even better RMSDs. Furthermore, this will space out uploads and relieve the load on our servers. Please make sure to download the new package to slow down the rate of uploads and to generate better data.

Note that if you had problems accessing the FTP site, this was due to unannounced network changes in the hospital, and has now been resolved.

                      Folding servers are busy
After yesterday's protein update, our servers and database have been running at maximum load, due to buffered results as well as the faster speed of the new protein. Rest assured that we have verified that nothing is broken, but if you are having difficulty uploading your results or logging in, please try again later. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. The grace period for uploading old results has been extended to be 24 and 48 hours for full and half credit respectively, counting from 12:00 pm EST today (18/03/2004).

                      Protein update delayed
Due to network problems beyond our control, the update will be postponed until tomorrow, Wednesday, March 17, 2004, approximately 11:00am EST. Use this time to upload any buffered resutls.

                        Please download slower client package
The client posted yesterday was mistakenly linked to an older version. This has now been corrected. To clarify, this is not an update of any sort, so there will be no auto-download. You have to manually download the package and install it, or at least use the new executable from the package. The more people running the new client, the better the results we get.
