    Hey,

I was wondering if anyone has found a good (hopefully easy) way to uninstall PD 5.30.. Does the uninstaller for 5.13 work? I know, the easiest would prolly just go through and delete everything G200 related again. Would be nice if they could do that for you though. I tried installing 5.25 on top of 5.3 and the bugs that 5.3 introduced stuck around.. like QuakeWorld dying just after like a while of playing.. 20 minutes or so.
    Thanks,

      Just FYI,
for me it works with a G200 and PD5.30
I've setup two PC's with nearly the same config (work and at home), they are:

      ASUS P2B
      Celeron 300A@450
      G200 8MB bulk
      128/64 MB ram
SCSI cards and other not relevant stuff

I've no problem, everything runs fine, OGL,D3D, and plain desktop at 1360x1020 (yeah;-)

Hey [Bozo],(it feels strange typing that in a non-offensive manner). If I had noticed this message sooner I would have given you guys some input and since no one else has done so on the ALi V I'll do so asap. I have a P5A which has the ALi V chipset. I haven't actually run any 3d games since I installed 5.30 but I'll check tonight when I get home and let you know what I come up with.

In non 3d accelerated DX games though I don't don't seem to be having any problems.(ie. TS, HOMM3). So anyway, till this evening or something.

I went back to pd5.13 and D3D now works except for HalfLife when you bring up the menu, kind of like the opengl screen (artifacts etc.). I found that the uninstaller will leave the pd 5.30.17 kernal though and that is why it took me a couple times to run D3D on 5.13 again (5.25 just doesn't work for some reason?) Oh well, c'est la "VIA" chipset!

It looks like a ss7 problem for sure w/5.30.
            Not a pentium/celeron poster here.
I actually got 5.25 working again after the 5.30 fiasco. Not a drop faster than 4.51 (with icd beta2) in 3dmark or Powerslide 1.04 fps testing.

Andrei - I gave up on Netscape long ago. If you disable Java it's more stable. The only advantage NS had was the mail and news icons for fast switching (ie4 took care of that).

Ok, here are my results. I was successfully able to run GlQuake, HereticII, and Half-Life. All of my standard D3D games run just fine. I haven't done any benchmarking, cause I don't know what the benchmarks were like beforehand.

At any rate, I haven't seen any of the problems that you guys have seen.
              Here are my system specs.

              Asus P5A, K6-2 350@400 2.4v, Bios v1007, Win98 SE, AGP Miniport v1.60, IDE drivers v3.50, 64mb PC100 SDRAM, 8.4gb WD, 13.5gb IBM, 8mb Mill G200, PDesk 5.30, SBLive, LiveWare 3.0

Well, there it is. The only problem I had during my testing was that HereticII was running really slowly, then I realized that I was running in 32bit color, so I dropped down to 16bit and everything ran beautifully at 800x600. Now it may be that it shouldn't be running tha tslowly at 32bit, I don't know, I've never tried it before so i have nothing to compapre it to.

I didn't check Half-Life in 32 bit, although I do know that it used to be playable at 32 bit so I will have to check that tonight.

Until then, into the fray I go.

Here's the problems I've had with the drivers:

I recently upgraded to Win 98 Second Edition (though I think it did the same thing regular Win 98 was installed). Ok, I install the 5.30 drivers, fine; it asks me to reboot, I do so. My computer reboots; Windows 98 Screen comes up; Windows 98 loads any extra DOS batch files I have. RIGHT when it's about to go into the OS, it freezes. The cursor just sits there, blinking at me. I get frustrated, I reset the computer. It starts up again, yet this time it goes in Windows, BUT, instead of freezing up, right when it's about to load the GUI, I get a blank screen for about 5 seconds that I never got before. While in the OS, everything works fine as I can tell, but I have a feeling they didn't install correctly. Any suggestions?

My nick is supposed to be abused for the one that had difficulties using it differently

Anyway, I think the point is proven now. VIA MVP3 has a incompability problem with PD 5.30. I think this is both Matrox and VIA's fault, mostly Matrox however, becouse other companies seem to have seen and fixed this problem early on.

However, I would VERY MUCH like to see Matrox acknowlege this problem. This way of treating end-users is unacceptable. There are not a few number of VIA MVP3 users out there, and Matrox just close their eyes.

Nothing will probably help to improve Matrox end-user relations, but eventually they will suffer from it.
