Just curious, is it just me or you can't install driver just clicking on setup.exe after unzip, because when you do that, the program will copy but nothing will at the end and it will still tell you to reboot. So the only way is to have to add or change using display properties instead by searching files folder. All previous Matrox drivers are that way... So just wonder if Matrox knows the problem as well or they just don't care. Thanks

I've had that problem intermitently. I've never managed to figure out what causes it though. I was never able to install 5.13 5.15 5.20 ro 5.25 properly. The only time setup has ever worked was with 5.30. Do you by chance have an SS7 system? I think maybe that has something to do with it, although I've never been able to prove that either.

I have the problem with all the versions I installed in the past, namely the 5.25 and the newest version. Sorry what is SS7 system you referring to HedsSpaz? This is a intel cel system, abit BH6 mobo if that's equivalent of the question you asked.

BTW, when u using Add through Display Properties, you get 2 sets of driver for each language, e.g. Matrox G400 AGP (English) and Matrox Mellennium G400 (English) and you need to select either one. Do you know the difference between the two? It obviously does not occur when using setup. And what's everyone's Display Adaptor name using setup? Thank you

I think this all started with the 5.xx drivers for Win98/95. These drivers are more integrated with Windows. Notice that there is no longer a separate Matrox icon in Control Panel. Since that time I always use the uninstall utility and then run setup.exe and everything is fine. Only thing is that I lose my schemes.
On the other hand in WinNT, the Powerdesk drivers are still 4.xx and there is a seperate icon for Matrox in the Control Panel. I've never had a need to uninstall before running setup.exe to install the drivers with NT.

Can't install it using setup.exe even in Safe Mode. The program will indicate that files are being copied and ask to reboot but in fact nothing was copied. But alternative way works just fine.

1)If you check windows\applog you'll find some Matrox logs in there. Uninstall doesn't get everything.
2)Gab, only matrox installs don't work? Games and apps are fine?
At the least, you should be able to select the new inf file generated by the setup program (or is those files never expanded?)
3)You didn't uninstall the old inf's in the inf\other folder. That's why you have multiple entries for g400. W98 might even have it in their supplied database. Before you install the new files, edit the inf file and change the name that'll appear in the device manager listing (in the [strings] section of the inf). It'll eliminate confusion.

All other programs install just fine, and yes the file MATROX.LGC is in WINDOWS\APPLOG, it's quite big too 277KB =)
