Hi everybody,
My system was running perfectly without any crashes........until I had to reinstall win98.
First I installed directx7 and 5.41 drivers and it was all well again but I was tempted to install 5.50 drivers and now windows crashes and the screen gets garbled and it's an ugly sight :-(
I remember having the same problems with my earlly G200 and if I'm not mistaken I also experienced the garbled screen with my very very erally Mystique220andRRStudio combo.
But I suppose this is a driver problem because a new driver would usually solve the problem.(usually)
It seems to be a problem with the directdraw drivers because it happens if you try to open a video file, view a dvd movie, using the TV card and chainging the color depth or screen resolution. But I can play quake3 or UT for hours without any crash(but when you exit the game and it tries to go to the earllyer resolution and colour depth it sometimes crashes again)
The worst thing is that sometimes the system runs fine and sometimes it crashes all the time.... Setting AGP to 1X solved this problem with my G200 but it didn't work with G400Max :-((
I uninstalled 5.50 with the matrox uninstaller and installed the 5.41 again but it was the garbled screen again. I reinstalled directx7 but it didn't help either.
My system runs overclocked at 115Mhz bus speed but it also happans at 100Mhzbus speed so it doesn't have anything to do with the system being overclocked. I also tried different memmory setting but it didn't help.
The G400Max isn't overclocked and I have latest bios version installed.
The fact that I experienced the same problem with 3 different matrox cards on 3 completely different systems makes me think that this might have happened to other marox users as well(or my 3dfx friends layed a curse on me ;-). So if you had the same crashes and the ugly screens please please tell me how you fixed it! Come on Ant, you must now how to fix this ;-)
Thanks everybody
