  • P5a versus NT40 and MGA G400 troubles

I'm having problems with my G400 video card to get it going in NT40.

I'm having a P5a m/b with alladin 5 chipset and a Matrox Millenium G400 AGP card. Bios version 1007a and latest drivers for G400.
Nt still returns with a vga compatible card.

Within Win98 it works fine no problems at all.

I must disable the "POST Write Buffer" in the BIOS "chipset-feature" menu ,then I can start Windows NT with the Matrox driver 4.34 . Otherwise I has a crash on the login screen. I use also an ASUS P5A with a K6-III 450MHz and the BIOS-version 1010beta. You use also an AMD K6-III?

      Hi !

I write this message to correct my message which I written above.
The correct name in the "BIOS Chipset Feature Setup" is " Frame Buffer Posted Write ". I have already written it to Wilko per email , but there are definitely still other G400 users which has the same problems. This problem seems to appear only in the context with a K6-III 450MHz processor. I can't say whether all Aladdin-V motherboards are involved , because I could test the combination with the P5A only.
The AMDK6-III processor is simply to fast for Windows95. Despite the patches from AMD falls Windows95 with a installed K6-III 450MHz, if it should activate the USB-driver at the Windows start (protection error in file 'ntkern.vxd'). You can deinstall this driver, but Windows95 need this driver for the AGP-functions.
Why should WindowsNT haven't a similar problem?

      bye
