  • Win2K Dualhead ...

When I enable dualhead multidisplay under Win2k, the multimonitor support is NT4-style, not 98-style. Under 98, the second monitor can be of a different resolution. Not so with the current drivers. I hope matrox fixes this soon. I know if I use multiple graphics cards under Win2k I can have the 98-style multimonitor setup I want. I gave up windows 98 for anything but games long ago. Are the current beta drivers just hacked versions of the NT4 drivers or what? I hope Matrox plans on supporting different resolutions for each monitor in future versions of the driver. I have been waiting for that kind of multimonitor support for NT for some time.

Well, I'm sure Matrox is trying to put together the best features from its Win9x and NT drivers for the Win2k drivers. Give them some time and maybe they'll come through for you. Anybody else have any information?

      Well,

if i remember correctly, the problem is in Win2k ( the code is from NT ) and Matrox cant make drivers that would allow Win98-like DualHead.

This is THE reason why i dont move to Win2k.. Just imagine my 19" monitor at 1024x768@72, like the 15" monitor is.. But just waiting if there will be a way to fix this.. maybe the problem is that in NT and Win2k you can have both monitors OpenGL-accelerated, and in win98 you cant.. and MS couldnt find a way to implement that feature to Win2k, atleast not to the first releases.. a PATCH maybe ?

Or, maybe i just remeber it wrong.

I have heard other users say that they use dual video cards under Win2k with the ability to set each monitor's settings seperately. That's my issue. I bought the card for the dualhead. I really hope that this is simply a driver issue and that (in time) Matrox will make the driver capable of doing this. If this is not the case, then I'm going to be equally dissapointed with Matrox and Microsoft.

Win2k supports multiple display adapters like Win98, but has no built-in supports for display adapters with more than one output. There is nothing Matrox can do about this, and AFAIK Microsoft is currently implementing support for it in a future Win2k release.

I have just found out that you are right, Phoenix. Matrox said that Win2k does not treat the two outputs on the G400 as seperate devices. Microsoft is going to fix this in SP1 (hopefully) at which time I will get what I want :-)
