  • Win2k + K6/2 + ViA Mobo Probs + MGA-G200

I installed RTM code Win2k on this machine with no problems, all the VIA stuff was detected, and the built in MGA-G200 drivers work fine. When I install the latest (final) Win2k drivers from Matrox's site, when the machine is about to go into "gui" mode I just get a black screen and the machine hangs.

Anyone had any similar problems, or has anyone managed to get these drivers to work on a similar system?

I have the same problem. The screen goes black right after the splash screen? right. I have had the same problem with the beta3, RC2 and RTM versions of Win2k and none of the released drivers from Matrox will work. I contactd Matrox Tech Support and they asked if I had applied the critical update released by Microsoft. I had already done this before loading the powerdesk drivers. I have no suggestions for you, but just wanted to let you know you weren't alone.

    Here are my specs:
    FIC VA 503+ v1.2a (1.17 bios)
    AMD K6-3 400
    1x 128MB PC100 SDRAM
    Matrox Millennium G400DH 32MB (AGP)
    Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI128
    USR Sportster 56K V.90
    Intel Pro100 NIC

on a side note, I have a second 503+ board running with a G200. The built-in win2k drivers work fine and I haven't tried to install Matrox's drivers for obvious reasons.
