Do you mean they change for the icon of another program, or do they just corrupt?
If it's the former, it's quite common. Just use something like TweakUI and it's 'Repair' tab to rebuild the icon cache.
TweakUI...that reminds me, the Win2k version of this expires today! Does anyone know if there is a non-expiring version available?
I know it's a bad sign. I only tend to have problems with my pc's, i've got a hd that I have to bang to get it to read, wierd mb bios problem which shows strange colours between bootup screens.
Anyway the tweakUi only fixed it temporarily, their back. I've tried regclean, norton win doctor and still no luck. It's no big deal, i thought their could have been a quick fix for it.
Looks like i'll have to clean house to sort my pc out.
Wishbone, even if you repaired that, remember that this problem usually is a bad sign. Probably, your system is going to loose performance and stability.
Usually, the Icon problem is generated from a messed registry. Tri RegClean or other utils like that if you find that your PC seems too much slow or unstable.
I don't think it's that bad a problem. It happens to me quite a bit, and I'm sure it's not indicative of registry trouble. Sometimes it's only the 'ShellIconCache' file getting screwed, often deleting it and re-booting will fix it.
