    what is "MGABG.EXE" for ?

    Hello,
    I´m using the latest WHQL driver under NT 4.0 SP6a WS (4.54) and the driver seems to create a new service which starts right after booting, "MGABGEXE". Can someone explain me the purpose of mgabg.exe, has it sth. to do with security ?

    It's Matrox's Bios Guard program. It prevents an affending program from whiping out the BIOS of you Gcard.

      Some people have complained that it affects system performance and Matrox has responded that its safe to disable the service.

        thanx, now I know it may be safe to leave this service untouched :-)

        BTW: it doesn´t seem to cost any performance on my system mgabg.exe seem to sleep and seem to use no CPU cycles (NT 4 SP6a)

          I believe it was a minor performance hit on occasion when the service polled. This was discussed on the Matrox TS forums. I wouldn't worry about it.
