Why must people flame Matrox hardware?

Price is almost irrelevent, the only thing that matters are the products available on the market today. An SLI voodoo II (£70~) will exceed a G400Max in Quake2 benchmarks. If price mattered, you may as well say don't compare a celeron with a P3 or Athlon. I say compare the lot, let the people decide and don't flame just because you made the wrong decision :-).

I recently purchased a Matrox Millenium G400 Max. I was so excited to install it after reading so much about it every where. I have a Celeron 500, 384 megs of RAM, and Windows 98SE. No matter what I did it would not work. I visted your site and tried everything in the forums section, visited the Matrox site, searched the internet and found other sites with forums for other people with Matrox video problems and tried their suggestions. No success. At one point it seemed to be working okay but my computer would not shut down. I went back to your site and tried your ideas for that problem too. No luck. After spending over 20 hours trying to make this thing work, I just gave it away. I don't know very much about computers so I got a couple of geeks to check it out. One is a system administrator. Neither one of them could get it to work either.

Hi Jon Eichman. I did a search for your post in all MURC forums and the only two that showed up are this one and another for a Windows Protection fault when installing G400 in the Power Desk forum.

Try it in the Matrox Hardware forum for maximum help potential.

Good idea, SCompRacer. but irrelevant, since he's given his card away.... or I would have posted the Win98SE Shutdown Supplement when I saw his post earlier... or at least the link to the MS Knowledge Base article "How to Troubleshoot Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Problems"....

...but that's not important now, right, Jon? Since even your "geeks" couldn't fix it....what use could <u>we</u> possibly be??

Maybe irrelevant Holly, but I felt compelled to point it out.

I would like him to expound on "I just gave it away." Like sell it at a loss or really gave it away? I would like to be at the head of the line if something else were not to work for him! Who knows, maybe the sys admin has got a G400 now.

LOL, I suspect one of his "Geeks" who told him it was bad said "I'll take that problem off yer hands...for free =) ". Now one of his friends who has knowledge on how to install hardware properly has a damn fine card in their system.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make anyone angry. Like I said I'm new at this. I gave the card to my son. He's going to try and make it work on his system. I installed the Windows shutdown supplament. Like I said I tried everything I could find information on. I'm sure the people who contribute to this forum know about my card more than me or my son. I'm sure I could get the card back. I was just so frustrated I guess I kind of gave up. I tried posting to another forum but no one replied. I need help, not someone blowing off steam because I made a mistake in their eyes. Like I said I didn't mean to insult anyone or make them angry.

Jon, post your problem in Matrox Hardware.

Post it with your complete system specs. Most people look in that thread if they have problems with their card!

No problem, just post in Matrox Hardware as Jorden already directed, leave a detailed description with a complete component listing including the motherboard mfr., model of motherboard, bios revision, driver versions of all applicable hardware, what you have tried, and let us help you. We CAN help...we have the best of the best around here, give us a chance and you will see.
