Look at all those different colors Post-It

I wonder if he's glueing his monitors together with them

Though his real desk is considerately clean

Well I'm contemplating getting in on this contest. I might stand a chance of doing well, but only on a technicality. I mean, that's an awfully impressive set of shelves to the side of Icestorm's desk itself ;-)

Still.. the semi-assembled computer sitting on it's own motherboard box is a feat that would be tough to top..

I think I'd come in at an advantage, I'm living in a dorm room till the end of the month.. not a large desk, so there's only once place for junk :-) If I can get some pics before I move out I'll put some thought into posting..

The problem is, it's not exactly a normal desk, as you can see. No drawers. No biggie, that's what the desk, the floor, and shelves are for. :-)

The little black "hockey pucks" are WristGliders. I need the space for the wrists to move around while I'm typing. Without them, I'd be in serious pain. As it is, my hands just go numb after about two hours of intense FPS play.

The desk is an Ikea Jerker, with extension shelf on top, and a side-mounted shelf. The actual desktop that the monitors/keyboard sit on is a split-level design. The front platform that the keyboard's on is 30" deep. I've got 6" of room in front of the keyboard for proper posture and wristglider movement.

Under the desk, to the left is the Athlon 550. To the right is the PIII-550E at 733, and to the far right is the PII-266 (gateway box). The desktop wallpaper was scanned from the postcard to the right of the upper Gap bag (that's what gift certificates come in these days). Epson knows how to make a scanner.

The two forefront machines had their power supplies replaced with Antec PP-303X's. One of the original PS units is on the floor next to the PIII. I use that to test out new boards before they go into cases. The fourth hookup from my KVM feeds the test keyboard/video/mouse cables.

The pictures are coming from a Kodak DC280. The first one was a high rez photo which I scaled from 1760x1168 down to 800xWhatever. These two are done in Standard mode, which is 896x592. Bought it this week.

This is part of the morass of cables that run to everything. It used to be worse- everything was lying on the floor. Now it's sorta suspended in the air, or shoved in the gap in the metal of the desk. There are openings to snake cables down and out to floor level. The monitor shelf "half" of the first desk shelf is above. The front desk part starts below it. On the monitor shelf is a JetDirect print server. Below, the clear thingy is a USB hub, and the blue thingy is a Westel DSL "modem". You can see the scanner in the distance on the right.

I really do need to tidy up a bit - maybe even put the sides on my PCs. :-)

The optimist says: "The glass is half full."

Icestorm, I took a look at the big picture you posted. Do you have a computer built in an old Asus motherboard box?

I see anime babes as well.

The anime's a cel/picture/whatever you call it from the original Bubblegum Crisis series. It's Priss, Lina, Nene, and Sylia, as they appear when performing with Priss on stage. That aspect of their cover was never strongly integrated into the series. The second BGC series is doing a much better job of fleshing out the characters (no pun intended).

The Asus box is the P3B-F mobo box I received this week (my PIII-550E's current home). It just happens to be parked there, because that's where I assembled another system last week. The motherboard is an Epox KP6-BS - a dual PII board. It's fitted with PII-450's. The board was $150, the PII's were $100 each (TigerDirect's dumping SECC cartridge PII's). It's going to be a Linux box, when I find the time. There's a Matrox Mystique on it, two CPUs, and not much else. The Epox box is HUGE. It overhangs the extension shelves a bit too much. Right now, there's an 8x CD-ROM and 20GB HD sitting on the top of the scanner, cabled up to the mobo. I'm installing S.u.S.E. 6.3 on it. There's an ATX case for it off to the side, but that goes on after the OS is installed and working.

We won't ask what your main OS is, probably Linux, but I wouldn't have a clue how I found that out

What's with the Save Kenny button though?

(Oh my god, they killed Kenny, bastards!)

                  Jord.
When I chose to go out
I always leave the light on
when I have to stay in,
you always find me by the phone.

My friends tell me that I'm lucky,
now that I'm living on my own,
and while they've never been more right,
can someone tell me when will love come home?

Cleaning the mess entails tidying up the desktop so that I can put a book in front of the keyboard. The PC on the shelf will probably stay for a bit. :-)

Save Kenny is one of the buttons Iomega was giving out at PC Expo last year? Two years ago? One of the two. Ironically, I don't use Iomega storage devices, I went with some cheap SyQuest gear. Need to get Spin Rite to do media analysis - the drive cartridges keep developing bad sectors at the most inopportune times.

I'm a Win98SE/Linux person. NT sucks, W2K's still bayta, in my opinion, and I don't have a NetWare 5 box up yet (it's on the agenda).

It's a Sharp JX-9400 laser printer. An acquaintence was throwing it out, as he couldn't get it to print. :-)

It's 300 DPI, and uses separate ink and fuser cartridges. Each run about $100, but the ink cartridge lasts a whopping 15,000 pages - I'll never print that much. :-)

I added 4MB of RAM to it to bring it to 4.5MB total, and attached it to the print server. It's supposed to do 4ppm. Uh, not quite. :-) But it is LaserJet II compatible, and has enough RAM for most prints. The paper pickup needs some work, or I need to clean it, but usually if I "kick" it hard enough, it starts working.

I've got Acrobat 4 installed, so most of my "prints" have been going to PDF files instead of the printer as of late.

The other printer is an Epson Stylus Pro.

Last week I cleaned off my desk & left town for a 5 day class in Houston.
This is what I am greated with on my return!
Anyone know where I can find an animated white flag of some sort?
