Dear Holly,

Thank you for explaining the background for Gurm's signature. I now know that it was a case of bad interpreting (I don't think in English) on my part that led me to believe that a "primitive screwhead" was a name for someone who only thinks about doing a lot of sc***ing.

The people who know me, also know that I sometimes like to shine (hope that's the right word) people off, by cracking a funny quote from a good movie. I'm no stiff-necked conservative who frowns at every small obsenity.

An appropriate response from me would usually be something like: "You talk the talk. Do you walk the walk?" See if you can guess where that's from...

Thanks for the support. It was quite satisfying.

Gurm,

I don't think of you as a bad guy. You have been helpful towards me several times in the other forums. I'm just finding it really hard to agree with your arguments and understand why you make them.

What I'm really getting at is that in a serious argument like this, we should all be careful how we chose make our points. It's just to easy to misinterpret.

Finally,

Maybe I am a bleeding heart liberal. I don't know exactly what that implies, but I know that the mere thought of taking someone else's life is simply incomprehensible to me, nomatter who does the killing, criminal or the state "serving justice". I guess that's why I chose to live amongst criminals for a while to better understand what made them act the way they did.

That's all,

Jake

Jake,

I understand completely. We all get a little carried away in here, and none of us will hold the fact that you're a card-carrying "bleeding-heart" type against you outside the context of this thread. Honest!

Your statement about not being able to imagine ending someone else's life pretty much puts you into that category. I will attempt to find a better definition of the term for your edification when I'm not working.

And no, I'm not anywhere near as die-hard as I come across. If you put a gun in my hand, I'd have as hard a time as most pulling the trigger, even if the other person was a bad guy.

And yes, Jorden - I think it's high time we reinstated the full .sig, especially since I just finished watching a full run of all the Evil Dead movies on DVD this past weekend.

Ok, a couple points:

Jake:

I'm too lazy to type in the bold tags. Cope.

And if you don't like "Army of Darkness", then you don't have to watch it, ok? I decided that my boomstick was far less offensive than "Yo, she-bitch... let's go!" or "First you wanted to kill me, now you want to kiss me... blow!"

---------------------

On justice:

Yeah, I was right. In the light of day I was a little overboard. *sigh*

But you know what? Most of us law-abiding citizens aren't in that 1% or .1% that gets put away even though they're innocent - because even the people who get put away because they are innocent are usually some kinda bad person.

I'm never at a crime scene. I'm never standing on the street with a gun when they happen to be looking for a guy on the street with a gun who matches my description. And I always have an alibi, because I'm not spending my time doing bad things.

So the likelihood of my wife/daughter/loved one getting locked up and/or killed unjustly is so slight that it's almost negligible - because we don't do bad things on a regular enough basis to get locked up for no apparent reason.

And no, you can't make comparisons between America and Europe. Amsterdam has very little crime, yet many drugs as well as prostitution are legal there. While I happen to feel that America should also legalise these things, it's unfair to draw any kind of parallel between the two places, because the societies are so vastly different.

And as for facts (who asked me that? Oh, yeah it was Jake again)...

I was speaking of America. Figured that might have been clear - both from my writing style and my use of big words like Texas. In virtually every poll, the number of Americans who favor the death penalty easily outweighs the number who don't, at least in the large demographic areas (New York, California, etc.) - the problem is that our bleeding heart legislatures have NO BALLS.

Oops! I did it again... I didn't use bold, I used caps instead... (to the tune of Britney Spears, yay everyone!)

Ok, I'm just getting silly now. Gurm out.

ALBPM, nice handguns.

i had a custom .45 being built from a ex-friend gunsmith but he riped me off for my downpayment and never delivered the gun now i still have a desire for a custom .45 (two tone blue stainless (smoth rosewood grips 4.5lbs trigger w/ adjustable night raised night sites) but i can't aford it right now and probibly by the time i can (about two years from now) they will be baned or have so much gun lock crap added to them that by the time you could get the thing ready to fire your attacker would have beaten you up robbed your home raped your wife/sister/doughter ect.... and kicked your dog and still have time to make a meal before he leaves.

as for now all i have is a h&k vp70z 9mm (19in the clip ocgonalwalther stile barrle and polymore frame. (finished in some non rusting germon military finish) parkerizeing? im not sure it's a graygreen color) and a s&w 1066 10mm auto 9 in the clip.

----------------
i want a .45 again damit (11.5 mm) so i will have a good range in bullet sizes. 9mm 10mm 11.5 mm

Wow, nice looking guns, Pauly... who knew?

Sorry that I don't know enough about guns to say they're more than 'good looking'... all I've ever seen was a documentary series on the development of the shotgun on The Discovery Channel.

It was really interesting, though, understanding the details of how and why improvements were made.

I really do need to learn to shoot. I'm not too keen on owning a gun, but I do believe that if I come into possession of one (during a fight), I d*mn well ought to know what I'm doing with it...

....'Course, I also have to learn to fight well enough to take the gun away from the guy who has it... *sigh*

Ya, I guess I'm one of those mustachioed gun toting New Mexicans. VIVA la 2nd Amendment!!

To quote Joel:
When interviewed criminals stated that their two greatest fears were:
1) Getting caught.
2) Confronting a gun owner.
I didn't see the need to own guns until a few bad experiences back in the 80's. In the last 7yrs I've had 4 incidents which were quickly avoided because the other party saw that I was armed.
My wife has had two incidents. Once she was stalked by two individuals who ran like hell when she pulled her pistol out of her purse. And the other when she was harassed while driving to visit her brother in Texas. She has a Glock model 22, .40SW and can empty all 13 rounds in a 3" group at 25 yards.

None of the guns we own have ever killed anyone, but they may have saved our lives several times in the last few years.

Ok, I am new here so this is going to cover some odd ground....

Back ground...(why I feel I can talk about this stuff, not bragging just setting the stage)

(I shake a lot when I think about this stuff so bare with me.)

Please understand that I do not like this side of myself, but it has allowed me to understand things that the average person should not ever have to endure.

1. 5 years in the military (US Army) I am formally trained in many thing that most people don't like to talk about. (Killing is a lesser evil on the list)

2. Many years of Martial Arts training, weapons trainings (not fire arms) and many years fire arms instruction. (my father was a trainer for the local police in most of the combat training, with and with-out fire arms, also ex-military)

3. I was in combat. (don't ask, I wont talk about it here)

4. I have lived and spent a lot of time in other countries (2+ years in Germany, 1+ year in SW Asia, assorted time in many other European countries.)

Ok, enough...
Sorry for that but you don't know me and I don't want people thinking - "What the hell do you know!"

Some observations from my travels and life...

Germany... low crime, yes. But at what cost? The police can do horrible things to you if you even twitch during an encounter. They can enter your house without a search warrant. They can charge you with a DUI (can't remember the term there) if you are asleep in you car drunk and the keys are in the ignition(even if you were just keeping warm). The police carry automatic weapons (big ones).

Kuwait - Steal something once loose you left hand (marked for life and can't eat in public any more, social out cast). Second time, death (in public, I was there for one of those but was not allowed to go because I am American). Kill someone, you die (public hanging). Just to name a few...

Can't remember many of the others, it been a while. The point being, yes there are other countries with less crime (both stated above), but at what cost? In the US, although it migh not seem like it, we are conscious about human rights. Yes this has allowed for more crime. Yes we need to make changes. But I would still rather live here then any place where the police can just walk in because they might think you did something wrong. Do process. It works most of the time, but it could use some work.

But...
I do believe in the death penalty.
I do believe in a lower fixed number of appeals.
I do believe you should pay for your crimes.

Also, before you turn the fire on me, think to your self... What if that was my family? What if that was me? I have been in situations where people were trying to kill me, both in and out of combat. And it sucks! The line "Talk the talk...", well until you have please refrain from "I now what I would do if...". In my experience most people either run or freeze. Some, and you might be that person, do what needs to be done (it is not fun nor glorious). Maybe I am wrong; I have been before and will be again. But, I know what it is to be the person consoling a rape victim, do you? Ever been the victim? Before you decide that the poor children should be reformed ask the girl what she wants. After all it was her body they borrowed without asking (start of the thread).

Yes some people can change; maybe we should try to rehabilitate all of the criminals. But by doing so don't we send a message to people of the world - "Ok rape me, but afterwards you need to be good."? Or how many times do we do the rehab run...

"Johnny this is your seventh rape, now you stop it..." (Motherly voice).

I have heard the idea that violence fixes nothing. I disagree; ask someone who lived in a concentration camp if WW2 didn't fix their problem (just one of many examples I can bring up).

Lastly...(tired of me yet?)
So, what was all that??? I seem to ride the fence, fight for both sides. well that is because there needs to be a balance to all of this. Do you want to live in a country where you screw up once (stealing) and are now a social out cast(no chances)? Or do you want to live in a lawless country where we allow criminals to go free because there is a chance that they can be reformed?

Where is the middle groung?
Where is the right answer?

Yes, I think the boys got off easy (just to be clear) and I don't have children and I have never been raped, so I can't say what I would do...

End rant...
Have a nice day...
Fire at will...

Hiya, Jeff, good to meet you.

It sounds like you've had a hard row to hoe, and that's tough.

It also sounds like you're a strong man who's used what he's experienced "for good, instead of evil".

I look forward to your contributions in this and any other thread you might care to drop in on.

Welcome in!
