  • I'm Never Going To Buy A ...

I am very tired of reading posts from people who, apparently, are hard-core gamers and complain bitterly about the performance of their Matrox card, notably MAXs. The typical comment is "Decision time as to whether or not get the V5500 and have FSAA or GForce2 and get T&L. Matrox blew it. The G400Max I just got will continue to operate in my server, but not as my primary gaming card anymore, I can't keep up with the competition" Recognize this comment anyone?

What a bunch of crap. Get a life. Who cares if you can't get state-of-the-art gaming performance. I sure as hell don't. Who cares if you can't keep up with the best available framerates of the rich teenagers down the block who have nothing better to do with their lives than play video games. Not I. If you want competition, join the Marines, voluteer for the Seals, Airborne, etc. They'll give you a challenge and even pay you to do it. Wimps on an easy chair crying for a few fps in an imaginary world are too ridiculous for words.

I hope there are only a few people who live in this make-believe world. People, people, people...you know who you are...Come back to reality and see where the true priorities in life are. They certainly are not in posting your crying about your worries on this BB.

Post to help people with problems, post to pose questions, but don't post to cry about your lack of fps.
There is no language I can state on this forum which can express my distaste for gaming wimps who cry over such an "important topic" as gaming speed.

The bottom line is...If you bought a card which doesn't have adequate speed, in your system, playing your game...Too bad. Your fault for not doing your homework adequately. No one wants to hear about it. We will try to solve the problem. Listen to crying, no. Don't bother.

    Yeah, gotta have that FSAA!

So you can cut your FPS in half or more....

      You got the point there...

since I am not upgrading my G400, because I really like it, I will upgrade the rest of my pc, so that I can get the most out of it. Now, if those stupid ****** would ask questions how to get the most out of their G400, their IQ would double instantly

I have nothing against improving one's gaming performance by upgrading video. I do games and it is important to me to have smooth and high quality appearance game play. I am totally ranting about non-productive complaints, along with the silly crap of threatening never to buy a Matrox card again. Like, this is a Matrox site, right? ARGGGH Some people here need the "Get a Life" message as a screen saver.

hey Brian, to each thier own, me...im gonna go out and buy myself a Geforce 2, and a Voodoo, just because, well frankly i cant go back to single monitor mode, this G400 dosent do the game speed i need and i gotta improve.

Yah Right! I dont give two flying f***'s if this card cant push the FPS that younguns want, no apparently NEED in their video cards...ah well...i dont even know if what i just typed makes any sense,

When I bought my system a year ago, I wanted to make sure I had something that would handle Q3A well. I borrowed a video card until the Max was available last fall. I didn't realize that the bulk of the fun was on-line and 56K modems just aren't adequate. All that research about video card abilities and the darn link is what killed me. Guess its time to get off my arse and get that DSL line installed.

My favorites are the "Matrox is history!" posts. As you know, Quake3 is the primary function of a computer, and all other operations are secondary.

Xortam, if you think your current ISP is a fun bunch, wait until you start dealing with broadband providers. It's worth it, however. I couldn't imagine a greater leap in performance from any other upgrade. You get used to it quickly, however, and standard dial-up access becomes unacceptably slow very quickly. I've never become so spoiled by something so quickly. It's like night and day.

Paul, is Q3A or Q3F the primary function of a PC? (I threw of Q3 some 2 months ago in favor of UT.. )

I thought 3DM2K was the primary function. If you can't get beyond 3000 3D Marks in such a benchmark, your video-card is old!! Then you will need a next one, especially one that doesn't use most of the instructions in the benchmark program and thus gives you a higher mark

I still have some benchmarks lying around which tell me my 486@a lot more MHz than my CPU is clocked at (P3-450), is faster than a P-75 , my CD-ROM is faster than the then standard 4 speed, and that my videocard Unknown brand (ISA or PCI) should just burn a hole in the slot it is in !!

Those speed junkies out there want to play at 160 fps? Let them play at 160 fps... Not that you see much of a difference between 60 fps and 160 fps, but it gives them a feeling of status!!

Hell, we can play our Doom at 240 fps, if only we remembered how to enable the fps counter in Doom, if there ever was one

I feel they're just yuppies. "Oh, my friend next door has a new videocard that is faster than mine, so I need to buy a faster card, and to hell with the image quality, I can always post on the MURC that I am doing it because Matrox is late with new drivers that won't fix much on my card anyway. I'll buy a $$$$$$$ card now for raw speed and in 2 months I'll buy the new Matrox card and go back at MURC and they never think I left there... And if I have problems with my Matrox card then, I'll post and the suckers will help me... Stupids!!"

                It's a view on things

                Jord.

Yeah Paul, I know about high-speed links. I normally surf at home on a decent SDSL line but can't game since its behind a corporate firewall. I used much, much faster networks when I was still working for a living. I guess I expected the current state of on-line gaming to operate well on slow links. This last year is the first on-line gaming I've done since playing Snipes on a NetWare network 15 years ago. Besides gaming, I thought I'd be using this new system for some software development and as a HT convergence platform but in actuality I spend most of my time camping out in MURC

                    Ha. Me too.

All our gamer friends are going to run out, buy a GeForce2, and their porn is going to look awful.

                    They'll be back.

I'm not really sure what you mean Paul. Don't all of us have dedicated systems for our porn?

                        Cmag,

As far as I know, Dimitri is the only one with a dedicated server for porn.

At least he USED to, then he got busted by the Feds. Don't know what he uses now...

But, Brian, don't you see-- that's 2/3rds of the function of The 'Box... to give MHW, Gaming and GH someplace to throw those dregs of society (bless their hearts), where they would not disrupt the minis who need their problems solved, nor the hardworking MURC-ers doing the solving... and where everyone who's been around here for any length of time knows that the mod will quash them like bugs, as she's never had any patience with such bit*hery and no particular interest in being known for her "kindness of heart" (yeah, right!) to the ignorant.

But that's just my opinion from knowing the mod, y'know? Wouldn't go so far as to call that 'official policy'.....heheheheh

And don't forget, this is still a lot better than the TNT2/pre-Voodoo 3K flame wars we used to have around here....

Seriously, in both incarnations I have repeated over and over that Matrox cards are for a very specific type of user, and absolutely the wrong card for another specific type of user. In fact, I listed specs on that "never should buy a Matrox card" type of user once upon a time. So don't let them get your knickers in a twist (unless you're bored and/or like that sort of thing).

You've been here almost long enough to be over the threshold of "heard it, ripped it to .mp3, recycled it for the HDD space"... no worries, 'k? Patience is a virtue for a reason (and that reason is more time to have an interesting and fulfilling life than arguing with some fps junkie, who isn't going to listen anyway ).
