    Down with RAMBUS!! For real this time!

    Major DRAM manufacturers are quietly planning to file an industry antitrust complaint against Rambus with the Federal Trade Commission, according to high-level industry sources last week.

    The move would be a pre-emptive strike to have Rambus' SDRAM interface patents declared unenforceable. The biggest memory makers also want to block further attempts by Rambus (stock: RMBS) to force them to pay royalties on their mainstream SDRAMs, double-data-rate SDRAMs, and logic controllers with synchronous interfaces.

        RAMBUS is the most hated company in the semiconductor/hardware industry. With their "patents" they will be able to sue every single company in the world that makes SRAM, RDRAM, I/O hubs for SDRAM, chip makers (including VIA and Ali) and more. And they will sue them all unless class action is taken against them.

          I wonder how they got so much intelectual property and patents and they come out with a lame product like RDRAM. Yes 16-bit memory bus is the future.

            Here is the story/rumor on how RAMBUS got all the patents:

            RAMBUS bastards showed up at the Joint Electron Devices Engineering Council (JEDEC) in 1995 when the big guns were discussing were to take the RAM industry. The items discussed in the conference were supposed to be industry standards, but RAMBUS took the ideas and ran over to the patent office with them. Thus RAMBUS took public domain ideas and patented them. Stuff they didn't even think up.
