I finally did it. I love my G200 but it's aging and it's really getting painful to use it in UT. I didn't feel like waiting any longer for the G450 and my other options were less than optimal so I ordered a 32mb SH G400 today.

3Day UPS Shipping from California, and since CA is 3 hours behind me it may actually ship out today!(it's 2pm there as I write this) I should be gleefully tearing open a package by Thurday evening at the latest!

Heh, of course, I can justify this by the fact that my B-Day is in less than 2 weeks, I'm just getting myself a present a little early.

Yeah, I've always thought so too. Nevertheless, I've always wondered what kind of reactions I could get out of people if I actually did something like that.

Don't I know it. When my friend got his G400 in his new computer back in April I nearly cried. I could only just bare to play UT on my computer for weeks afterward.

Jord, there are basically two reasons I went with SH. 1st It's costs more and an addendum to that, I'm a cheepskate.
2nd, I'm planning on upgrading to the G800 or whatever M's next big card is come christmas or thereabouts, so this is really just a stopgap solution. At that point the G400 will get relegated to my my old 'puter where I will never have any need for DualHead.

Of course, the one area where I wasn't willing to skimp was the 32mb. I didn't want to take the kind of performance hit that dropping to 16mb would entail just to save 20$.

I´m thinking about upgrading my trusty G200, not because of UT (cause it rocks!) but to give an extra kick to my system. I´ll probably buy a Matrox (G450?) card.

Thats always a good question, I'm trying to figure out the answer myself.
For a while it will go into my old K6-2 system, but when I upgrade again around christmas, well, my G400 will go into the K6-2 system, and then my G200 will go into.... a cardboard box?

I don't have enough parts lying around to build a third system, at least not one with AGP. So where does it go then?

I geuss it will probably end up going into a static bag and then into a cardboard box.

I geuss you haven't seen UT on a G400. After you upgrade you'll discover what you were missing and kick yourself for not haveing upgraded sooner. I make no bones about why I am upgrading, it's not so much that I want a higher FPS out of UT or any other game(although thats a nice side effect), it's because I want games to look nicer. Having seen what UT looks like on a G400 and a G200, I can quite frankly say that UT on a G200 looks like sh*t.

Congratulations on a good choice, HedSpaz. That's a good plan since you wish to get the next "big thing" from Matrox, which will hopefully be around before too awful long now.

YAY! It's here! It arrived yesterday afternoon and I put it in as soon as I got home from work. I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Don't get me wrong, I love my G200, but it just couldn't do what I wanted to anymore, I'm glad a stuck with a Matrox card though!

So, no it's time for the troubleshooting and tweaking to begin. I'll figure out the bugs soon enough, as well as the tweaks eventually, but a few words of advice would be nice if you guys would be so kind.
First, what drivers are the best for use with Win2000, and particularly, gaming in Win2000.
Second, in UT, which D3D dll have you guys had the best luck with. I'm hoping to manage to run in 1024x768x32, although if thats not feasible then I'll go with 800x600.

And now, just to make things truly official, the change to my sig.
