I now fear for MATROX-
My first PC had a Orchid card in it (hey I got Win1.x FREE with the board/Whoo Hoo Win on 2 160k floppies; needed a 3rd for the included apps)
No idea what was in my 1st (and so far only notebook); just don't remember.
My first 486 came with a Chips & Technology chipset and a ATI video board (they may not be dead, but would YOU buy one? And lets not forget their drivers
).
Another 486 I bought for work had a Cirrus video chip on the motherboard (wasn't going to pay much for a work computer).
Built my Pentium system with a Matrox MillII(Then added a M3D
).
What started life as my first self built Pentium II system had a Matrox G200 (still in use in my daughter's PC
); nowPIII and G400MAX.
Another now PIII (for gameing) started
with a Canopus TNT; then a (real) Hercules TNT2Ultra; now an other (realy other) Hercules GF2.
Finally a video box, with a Matrox G400DH.
So as you can see not a good sign all those companies that are no longer with us (in BOLD); versus the still with us (in italics). Yes, ATI is both for the above stated reasoning; Apples and mobiles, seem to be there only remaining strong holds.
As, for Matrox; well, I hope they get their act together and give us a new card that really wows us! Or there fate may be seald. This is a very unforgiving time in this markette, any misstep can be very hard to recover from and more then possibly fatal!
Go Matrox I'm rooting for you not to enter my companies in BOLD
!!
Mark F.
PS. Why after all this time do cards still default to the OAK Tech drivers in Windows? Haven't they been gone long enough to assume a card isn't one of theirs?
pps.
opps, thanx Ian
