    Err... just a thought.

Grammar is necessary and requisite. Spelling not so much, but it is still useful.

Where DID you all go to school?

Perhaps my English Prof. was a bit rough, but in my senior year of high school, a single spelling or grammatical error on your thesis was grounds for not graduating.

I've slipped a bit since, especially since I tend to write the way that I talk. But conversational or no, you won't find egregious errors here. No, sir.

Personally, I don't like advocacy, period. It's generally based on ego more than anything resembling rational thought. People like that tend to cheer for their team instead treating video cards like products to be evaluated objectively. Just something I find irritating. I mean you can say the card you own is good, or relate experiences you've had in the past with your other cards, but slamming cards you've never even seen in operation because they are not made by your home team is lame. (I am thinking of that "honour review")

Really, I don't care who is slamming what if they do it right. I think any critiques can be made without being overly provocative and by providing something to back it up besides ego. I am interested in information, not cheerleading and ego strutting. There is no video card in existance that doesn't have negative aspects, from some folks in here at times you'd think Matrox could do no wrong, and nobody else can do anything right. Fans, geez.

I also think on the other side that you should treat each case individually, not pounce on one guy because other people with a similar themed opinion have been annoying.

Ok, that's enough heaviness, pick a toe, you can bite either one.

Certainly, responsible critism is important. My point has been that much of it has been anything but responsible. It is at best gratuitous and whiney and frequently antagonistic or just plain dumb.

I started limiting my visits to the Gaming Forum for a while, because of the level of discourse from people with problems, real or imagined, caused me more stress than it was worth. Frankly, I don't know how Kruzin and Maggi put up with it. Things seem a bit better there now, probably due to the efforts of the moderators, but now the Matrox Hardare Forum has become the place for people to vent their spleens.

I've seen plenty of posts with the words "Matrox had better" in them. I've seen very few that weren't written by boobs or people who had temporarily lapsed into "booddom." I don't mind people occasionally venting their frustrations, but why threaten Matrox here? Why not do it on their forums? Is it because the moderators there might be quicker to pull the trigger and lock a thread or ban a repeat offender?

I've found that NVIDIA's drivers get a lot more respect here than they do in some NVIDIA forums. Is this motivated by some "the grass is greener on the other side" misconception? Are people making stuff up or indulging in wishful thinking to express their frustrations or punish Matrox? I've seen people here flat out lie about NVIDIA's driver release schedule.

Earlier in the summer, a lot of us engaged in tongue-in-cheek pool, done at Matrox's expense, about the release date for the G450. It appeared that some people picked up on one of the dates and decided that this was when Matrox was going to announce the G800. It seemed to me that people were actually holding Matrox accountable for missing a deadline when it appeared that no announcement was imminent.

Frankly, I found this episode just a little bizarre. I think if you can't wait for the G800 and the G450 doesn't meet your needs, you *should* buy another card. And if you like it here, by all means stay. However, I fail to see why people need to shout from the rooftops that they decided to go another way. It's one thing to mention it during the course of a dialogue. But why announce it? Who cares? Why should we care?

I just don't think that petty and pathetic little toilet training dramas should be played out at the expense of the forum membership. I would prefer if members responded by not responding. Or respond with something absurd. I bet we'd see a lot less of it.

            Good post, Paul!

You seem a bit more serious today.

Just one silly question: HOW IN THE NAME OF MATROX DID YOU GET 11589 POSTS?

            Sorry for shouting...

            Regards,

              paulcs,

I for one don't think a lot of NVIDIA's drivers from past experience. But I have no idea what they are like now, I haven't owned an NVIDIA card in some time.

Oh, you know, there are the usual complaints about D3D games and Half Life. There seem to be a lot of complaints about D3D and the Detonator3's in particular. OpenGL support is pretty strong. UT runs relatively slowly, given how fast the GeForce2 GTS is.

I can say without hesitating that they run all benchmarking programs perfectly (except UTbench), so I like them a lot.

Some people believe NVIDIA leaks drivers intentionally, rather than releasing them as Beta or final sets. They went for a period of about six or seven months without an update, although it was raining leaked sets. I suspect they're just leaked from developers and NVIDIA's OEM's.

I see your point, but it could be argued that the MURC itself is an "advocacy site", since we generally do not entertain a *cough*balanced view*cough* of the video card market.

So isn't that a double standard, or do people now want to rethink the character of these forums?

Hmmm, if there were anything left to say, I'd say it. Holly, Paul and Himself have covered pretty much everything though. So, I geuss we need to think about what, if anything, we are going to do now. Personally, I suggest less flaming of idiots and more sarcasm.

                            Holly,

My impression was that it was just a site for matrox card owners to gab, that's it, nothing about being a fan site for Matrox, in fact I think Ant mentioned something like that at one point referring to his review of something. I think you can own a Matrox card, talk about it, compare it to others, without being nutty about it.
