I rented the two disc director's cut once, and I didn't like it. I prefer the theatrical version (especially the ending, what was that all about?). I ended up buying just the single disc theatrical version, and it's good enough for me.

I also picked up a copy of Evil Dead (part I) from a used DVD place. What a weird movie that is. I'm still looking for Part II.

You guys like it more than than Evil Dead, which I thought was a stroke of evil genius? I haven't seen Army of Darkness yet.

I did a search on Army of Darkness and found a couple of useful links. The first has downloadable scripts for the entire Evil Dead series, including three different edits for AOD, and lots of other stuff. (They're in the file section.) The second links directly to a WAV file, with a very familiar line.

if you like the movie shown in the part of "the Matrix" where Neo walks into the house of the oracle:

            Night of the Lepus

never seen it, but it must be completely hilarious.

              agallag,

The problem with AOD is that there are at least 5 separate releases of it, all of which have different combinations of features, transfer quality, and scenes included. Kinda irksome. I'd love to get my hands on the 2-disc director's cut, as then I could ditch the 1-disc director's cut as well as the Special Edition, which I have both of in order to get all the scenes.

              *sigh*

Correction - Brando _WAS_ king, until he turned into something that looks like Jabba the Hutt's less evolved cousin.

                  ---------------

Movies you must have, not on DVD:

                  1. Army of Darkness (we've been over this, right? No need to trade in your VHS copy)
                  2. Star Wars 4-6 Special Edition Widescreen
                  3. Princess Bride (most disappointing DVD in years, the widescreen isn't even really widescreen!)
                  4. Akira (Supposedly coming soon to a DVD near you...)
                  5. The Pest (John Leguizamo before it was cool to like him... ok, so maybe it isn't really all that funny unless you're drunk...)
                  6. Monty Python - ALL (Poorest DVD transfers bar none. Makes the DVD transfer of "The Princess Bride" look downright luxurious.

Movies you Must own on DVD:

                  1. Grosse Point Blanke
                  2. Stargate
                  3. Conan Director's Cut
                  4. Highlander

...and a bunch of others I can't think of right now.

I picked up "The Guns of Navarone". That was cool. Gregory Peck, David Niven, and Anthony Quinn are 100 times more badass than Tom Cruise will ever be... and their mission is even more absurd. Recolorized and extended. Very cool stuff.

Movies You Must Avoid At All Costs:

                  - Random Hearts (it's very random, very little heart, all in all a complete waste of 2 hours of your life)
                  - The Story of Us (see above)
                  - Mission to Mars
                  - The Cider House Rules (when even Michael Caine combines with Charlize Theron's naked ass can't save a movie from itself...)
                  - Dune in any format other than the 4.5 or 6 hour versions (this includes the DVD and any VHS tape you can actually buy anywhere)

                      DVD's I really liked:

                      Lethal Weapon
The original - LW4 is okay too including the transfer, LW2 has a rather bad quality transfer.

                      The Fugitive
the sequel called US Marshals is pretty good as well

                      The Sixth Sense
nice package with plenty of extras, the director specificallly working on the DVD release

                      Maverick
                      The Fifth Element
                      Analyze this
                      Funny stuff.

                      Heat
A bit too long and Pacino is at his worst. Still provides excellent watching with DD5.1.

I would've included the original Die Hard as well were it not for the poor transfer. (The R2 release is a bit more bearable than the awful R1 NTSC release.)

For the record, I didn't like The Matrix. (Was a nice DVD package though, I just don't like the movie.)

Best DVD in terms of features I've seen is "Spawn", sound is also first rate.

                        Some others I have:

"Blade" - a made for TV movie that was accidently released in theatres and stumbled onto DVD. A souless movie, pardon the pun. Nice extras, makes you wonder why they made the effort though.

"Godzilla" - Great sound, good effects, but it's a monster movie and that Broderick dork is in it, what can you say.

"Frankenstein" - De Niro as frank, if you are going to have a frank movie, this is as good as any.

"Dark City" - a watch once movie, good but no replay value.

"Fight Club" - a watch twice movie, go back and look for the spliced inserts, sadly, not porn, just Pitt dressed as a pimp. Cool story though.

"Thirteenth Floor" - another blah watch once movie. Nice pictures, nice music, story, not so much. Beware blatantly fake sideburns.

"Star Gate" - good movie, my version on DVD sucks, swapping DVDs in the middle of the movie is lame.

"Army of Darkness" - slapstick, good one liners, can't watch it very often. My copy sucks, no features.

"Matrix" - good effects, good sound, nice story, can't watch it any more, overexposed.

Rule of thumb, only buy movies you've seen before and really liked or failing that, go for ones with lots of special effects.
