We both love Connor, and Duncan, and Dougal, and a few others. But we're iffy on how good Connor Goldovitz sounds. Although it's not too bad.

    I like Alaric as well.

Sounds like the kid will need weight training early with those kind of names.

Hey, you could always call the kid Gurm.

        Yes, I'm still alive.

Congratulations, Jason and Julie. Gotta watch out for that boomstick, you know.. all sortsa things can happen. If your last name doesn't suit, why don't you change it to Skywalker or something.. just tell Mom and Dad that the baby's name just didn't go with Goldovitz. Hmm.. or you could go with a traditionally Jewish name. Chaim Goldovitz definitely works. Just don't let him say it in someone's face if he has a chest cold.. that could be messy.. same with Dutch names beggining in "G".. if "Geis" is pronounced correctly, there is a definite danger of a lugie(sp?) shower there.

For girls, personally, I like Arwen.. very pretty. Rachel is also nice. Arwen Rachel wouldn't do though.. her initials would be ARG.. hmm.. if you named yourselves Skywalker though, it would be ARS, as in Technica.. hmm

btw, if it's a boy Slartibartfast would not be a likely name to endear him to his 3rd grade classmates. I would keep the name you pick in the cool but original area. Too many Justins, Joshes, and (apologies) Jasons out there. If I run into another guy named Josh, I think I will just puke..

Sorry if this post sounded incoherantly daffy.. waking up from cryosleep's a bitch.

        Kind Regards,

Let's all stop pretending Gurm is going to have a boy. We all know that Matrox's patented "Vibrant Color Quality Rendering" has rendered our Y-chromosomes useless.

There's always the possibility that a girl will beaten up in junior high with a D&D name. Maybe a Shakespearean heroine?

Adriana - The Comedy of Errors (I've always liked this name)
            Alice - Henry V
Aliena - As You Like It
Anne Page - The Merry Wives of Windsor
            Ariel - The Tempest
Audrey - As You Like It
Beatrice - Much Ado About Nothing
            Bianca - Othello
Blanche of Spain - King John (I've got dibs on this one )
Celia - As You Like It
Cleopatra - Antony and Cleopatra (recommended middle name: Jones)
            Cordelia - King Lear
Cressida - Troilus and Cressida (sounds like something you put in a salad)
            Daughter - Pericles (Very unpretentious!)
            Desdemona - Othello
Diana - All's Well that Ends Well
Dolabella - Antony and Cleopatra (junior high problem applies)
            Eleanor - King John
Elizabeth Woodville - Richard III (Elizabeth Woodville Goldovitz. Hmmmmm.)
Emilia - The Winter's Tale, Othello, and The Two Noble Kinsmen
Francesca - Measure for Measure (my sister's first name and the nicest thing about her.)
            Gertrude - Hamlet
Harpy - The Tempest (probably a bad idea)
Helen - Troilus and Cressida and All's Well that Ends Well
            Helena - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Hermia - A Midsummer Night's Dream (rhymes with Gurmia )
Hippolyta - A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Two Noble Kinsmen
            Imogen - Cymbeline
Isabel of England - Richard II
Isabel of France - Henry V
            Isabella - Measure of Measure
Jessica - The Merchant of Venice
Joan (of Arc!!) - Henry VI
Julia - The Two Gentlemen of Verona
Juliet - Romeo and Juliet and Measure for Measure
            Juno - The Tempest
            Katharine - Love's Labour's Lost and Henry V
Katherina - The Taming of the Shrew
            Lady Macbeth - Macbeth
Lavinia - Titus Andronicus (junior high!!)
Gentlewoman - Coriolanus (not his best play or girl's name. It is to the point, however.)
            Gertrude - Hamlet
Margaret of Anjou - Henry VI/Richard III
Margaret Page - Merry Wives of Windsor
Maria - Love's Labour's Lost and Twelfth Night
Mariana - All's Well that Ends Well and Measure for Measure
            Marina - Pericles
Mistress Overdone - Measure for Measure
Mistress Quickly - Merry Wives of Windsor
            Olivia - Twelfth Night
            Ophelia - Hamlet
Paulina - The Winter's Tale (I vote for this!)
Portia - The Merchant of Venice (Robert Altman reference as well. Very arty. You'll have to move to New York, Milan, or Paris, however.)
Rosalind - As You Like It
            Rosaline - Love's Labour's Lost
            Timandra - Timon of Athens
Titania - A Midsummer Night's Dream (not recommended)
Ursula - Much Ado About Nothing
Valeria - Coriolanus (also a Pixies' song! *Expect* problems in Jr. High)
            Viola - Twelfth Night
Violenta - All's Well that Ends Well (also sounds like something you put in a salad or a female super-villain)

Whew! That took a long time to compile.

Ok, I've been followly this thread rather amusedly since it began so I thought I'd chime in.

Since you both seem to like fantasy names consider using one for a middle name and something slightly more 'normal' for a first name. One of my best friends has the middle name of 'Aragorn'. Of course on the same note, his younger sister's first name is Galadriel. (notice a trend here?)

Of course, I do have to throw in the obligatory note that Ian is a good Gaelic/Scottish name.

                              Hi Ian,

Well I'm glad that you have mentioned the whole Lord of the Rings thing. I would like to give my child a middle nmae from the series (I would prefer first name, but I am trying to compromise here). Personally I like the names Aragorn for a boy, and Arwyn for a girl. Now all I have to do is convince my husband....hee hee. But at least now, he won't think its entirely unusual, since there are others with those names out there.
