Sorry that your tired of hearing about the G800 (some of us are just tired of _waiting_!).

I think that we should be able post about next gen Matrox cards here, even though it's just speculation (damn I thought they were going to show something at Comdex!). I wouldn't mind it if there were a Future Products board though.

Trying to figuring out what Matrox is up to is like tying to find a road that's not on the map, at night, while wearing welders googles!

i just wish they'd tell us what we can expect, instead of absolute denial.

Everyone is becoming crazy because Matrox is lagging behind, and it´s true, we have to admit it... the only way would be to start selling G800´s in the next two months. The way things are going, Matrox will lose its competitive edge in the 3D gaming community. This means money. I really find this strange, Matrox abandoning (or so it seems) the market like this. I hope they have a bunny (with G800 written all over it) inside the wizard´s hat.
This doesn´t shake me very much, though. I consider Matrox the coolest brand in the market, and I could have a GTS in my system, but I prefer the G400 out of coolness (and picture) . I´ll stick with Matrox anyways.

Those who are abandoning the ship like rats are: "oh, I couldn´t take the slowness of my games any longer (50 fps ), forgive me for I have sinned, I bought a Geforce. The G800 will never come out!!!...."
I´ve seen a couple of these...

        As for you, kewlcat:

RELAX! It´s just natural that people vent out this stuff... most of these things are a joke! My "G800 annouced!!!" thread was a way to play with this, for example. I agree with Helevitia.

More speculations on an unconfirmed product.

          Facts:
          * DirectX8 is released.
          * Fresh gossip from MURC: "...G800 will feature some of special techniques that we could haven't faced before. [...] The technique is from a certain 3rd Party"
          * Bitboys just released a new webpage design (http://www.bitboys.fi), but still no product release.

Is the (soon-to-be-released) G800 going to feature Bitboys' XBA?

By definition, the Soapbox Forum is for rants and OT issues.
By your own addmission in your title for this thread, this is a rant. It has nothing to do with Matrox Hardware, just your opinion on other people's opinions/speculations.
This thread is being relocated to the Soapbox Forum

I briefly considered jumping ship. But my rant (unlike the asinine rants of SOME people) actually attracted the correct kind of attention and the SMP bugs got fixed in a fairly timely manner.

So now the G400 runs stably. Which is all I wanted. FPS be damned. There is no game available today that LOOKS NICER on any card other than the G400. So, even if games were my priority, why would I get any other card?

FPS kiddiez will come and go. And anyone who bails on the G400 because it only has 30fps or 50fps or XXfps is a moron. But there are valid reasons to ditch it. There are still professional apps which won't run on it. And if some game comes out which pushes the 3D graphics so hard that the G400 drops below 20fps or so (not bloody likely anytime soon) at 640x480, that's a reason to bail, too.

But the quest for the holy 100fps is a stupid reason. The quest for dual-head that works right under Win2k is another stupid reason (nobody else's single-card solution works, either... and I'm talking SHIPPING cards, not some mythical thing Microsoft announced).

So everybody just relax. Ok? The <insert card's actual name here> will be out when it's out. Until then my G400 will do just fine. The only time I seriously considered ditching it, Matrox came through. That puts them so far ahead of every other manufacturer that it makes my head hurt.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
              I would still get screwed

G400 speed is just fine for most games, I know because the V3 2000 I have is the same speed as my previous card, a G400 SH 32MB, and I'm still looking for a good reason to upgrade it. I want to upgrade for the gee whiz factor, I just don't have the software to make it worthwhile.

Oh, for the record, I bought a V3 because it was 95% of a G400 SH 32 in practical functionality and I made $80 CDN on the deal. I didn't and don't notice any difference, I never used 32 bit with the G400, or bump mapping anyway. I just swapped cards and continued on, no slowdowns, some new features to play with, extra modes in games, no compatibility issues, it just works. If there was anything to miss it would be the 32MB, if only for the sake of 3DMark2000, games don't seem to care.

That's all from a user perspective, in terms of financial reality, Matrox has to get product out the door, and keep doing so, the race for market share is on, nobody can hide for long. 3dfx is likely to head out of the market, that leaves ATi and NVIDIA are serious contenders. In fact, according to one web site I read, NVIDIA has more market share than ATi now.
