  • Office 2K glitch ;)

I was installing Office 2000 standard (upgrade) today on a fresh build of Win2K. Of course with it being a clean install the CD reported that no valid products where found to upgrade, 'could i please select a drive' to look for one.

Bugger! I thought, but then I had the idea of pointing the installation program to look at itself. And it worked!

I bet that one is going to cost MS a few bob!

Yeah - it's a great one, innit?! It's saved us so much time at work digging out Office 97's when we install O2K from the upgrade CD...

That bit of code must have been written by the same person who wrote the Product ID checking routine which excepts all ones as a valid number!

Strange, that never worked for me when installing Office 2000 Premium (Upgrade, US English).

It did work though when I simply copied the pfiles\ folder from the CD to the hard drive and pointed the installer there.

Pretty sure it's just for Standard and Pro versions, not Premium.
