Must have been a hairy experience..

I mean, what else is a Dik to do when he finds a dyke with a wet dripping hole?

Haven't you drank from a dyke before?

      Ciao

            You got that right, Denty!!!

            Geez.

Anyway, before you all turn blue from either laughing or waiting with the requested "bated breath", here's the deal from the Bureau of Newcomers (very nice people, btw):

First of all, I'm apparently too well-educated (what? from a NYC public school? who knew?) to take the local Dutch-language course, so I will be taking the bus 5 days a week --actually, a couple of busses-- to a college in the nearby larger city of Breda. We get reimbursed for the bus fare. This apparently shaves 2-4 years off the course time, but is expected to take a year. I also get "Social Orientation", "Vocational Orientation", "social coaching for further acquaintance with the community, neighborhood and various facilities, usually handled by a separate agency called 'Refugee Work'", and referral for further study or work, which seems to only apply if I work in a field with special language (like the legal field, say), or which required further study to qualify for (I wanna be a doctor!!!).

I personally don't need any further permits to be able to sign in at the Job Center for work, but of course there's nothing much I can do with my very limited ability to speak and understand Dutch. Although....my programme assistant (I like to call her a "caseworker" ) was very kind and spoke slowly (which no-one else bothers to do), so I was able to follow to the limits of my vocabulary.

Basically it's going to be kinda gruesome, but I will like being able to participate more fully in daily life, so I'm not complaining (much).

Oh, and no one mentioned d*kes at all, sadly.

              MURCer's Social Etiquette:

Rule #1: When a MURCer is invited to a Party.

They must apologize at the door when they enter the premises for anything they may say or do for the rest of the evening.

That's about the only rule, Pauly.

But shouldn't "when" be "if" ?

Dyke plugging will be covered in the "Social Orientation" section of your re-education. The seminar will be called, "Everything the New Dutch Resident Needs to Know about Dik."

Guess I'll have to take very good notes then, paulcs... you see above that Jord already has questions about Dik that his education did not answer...!

[sigh] I have to do everything around here.... the man is helpless without me...

I hear they'll be bringing in a guest lecturer:

He's an expert on these matters, you know.
