    Adsl coming next month,
    1.5mbps down 0.5 up
    about $US80 a month
apparently they get up set if they see access to ports 25, 80 etc
but in 2 months or so they will have a 'deluxe' home pack where I can obtain a permanent IP address and do 'personal' serving for not much more

      Hey all..

I am in a small town in Ontario Canada called Port Elgin (Now a part of saugeen shores..)

And get this... after a 3 Month waiting period -as they started upgrading their equipment- BMTS -Bruce Municipal Telephone Systems- finally installed what they call Cheetah High Speed Internet -and they painted their vans really cool like... LOL-

Its not too bad... 3 months free, then $39 a month CDN -Thats 25 bucks for the service and 14 for the DSL Modem- and its unlimited 900/120 MBit -Dynamic IP tho-

I would have got a faster connection but that is all they are offering at the moment because they are still a month and a half behind for subscibers... When the finish installing all the equipment they will offer a better range of access choices.. but still not too bad.. haven't had a problem with it yet.

Well that was more than I was planning to write.. but hey...

what topha uses is deutsche telekom dsl flat, and you have to pay 10-25 DM (if i ain't mistaken/depends on the voice line you've got, telekom's tariffs are so.. well.. jungle-like i doubt they know them all...) for them to rent you the equipment (you have to take theirs) and to provide you the dsl line (i know it's not a physical "line")

they're approximately half a year to a full year behind subscriptions but promise to have dsl ready in 90% of germany at the end of the year...

and yahoo germany promises to bring us 1mbit/128 kbit adsl for 130 DM and 1mbit/348kbit for 160 DM..

            (i pay 80 DM for 64k/64k ISDN)

              768/128 for 49DM (25-30 bucks, depending)
runs at those speeds most of the time, pretty cool

hey cbman, i hope you mean kbit not mbit

It's only now getting available to the masses here. Well not quite as it's very limited currently but at least home users could afford it now. Cable is a bit cheaper and is available to more homes still.

Actually most probably I'll be just ordering adsl next week.

Home users get a measly 384/64 adsl for ~$43-$63 per month (depending on the length of the contract, limitations are the same).

Web/file serving is not allowed (why would someone want to do that with 64kbps is another question..). To that order you get a dynamic IP every time you reconnect (and you are forced to do so at least every 24 hours).

Otherwise it's unlimited. Four email accounts and some web space on the isp's server, all with very limited space is also part of the deal...

                  Not really exciting.

That's what you get for living in a small, poor country.

                    Chris B,

if the upload rate is equal to the download rate it is SDSL. They may call it ADSL, but only because people are more familiar with that term and high speed internet.

jammrock i think you're wrong here... afaik sdsl uses other frequencies than adsl.. and although they're called symmetric and asymmetric respectively, i think the names do only imply the standard use, not how they're actually used... i don't know if you can get sdsl run asymmetric but it should be no problem running an asymmetric dsl at symmetric rates by artificially crippling the download rate (and that's what all prviders do...)
