Dave, we are talking about major US brands here, and Michelob is the best US brand IMO.

Now, microbrews...well I can name a ton in this area alone that are wonderful.


Now on to Maggi's ? about Budweiser:

The reason the Budweiser here is different from the Budweiser over there is because they aren not the same company. Mr. Busch stole the name Budweiser from that brewery over there, and even stole the slogan (somewhat). The European Budweiser's slogan was "The Beer of Kings" The US's slogan is "The King of Beers".

And yes, Bud here sucks.

If you want to buy your friend good beer and don't want to pay as many euro-bucks or DM's look for a Canadian Export Brand... Canada's Beer is IMHO about 10 or 20 times better than that American Stuff...

I'm gonna paraphrase Jim Koch here, but...

The reason American "beer" sucks so much is that the major breweries were looking for a way to make beer drinkable by women and people with delicate palates. Hence the current urine-flavored varieties on the market.

However, I'd like to point something out at this time...

BEER is defined as a malt beverage containing EXACTLY 4 ingredients: Water, Hopps, Barley (Malt), and Yeast.

Since 99% of American "Beers" contain no barley, but instead contain rice or corn, that makes them not BEER, but rather CRAP.

I would sooner drink my own urine than a can of Coors.

Some of the local micro-breweries around me (I live near boston) are actually pretty decent. Yeah, not like a local German beer, but some of the stuff is still quite good.
I just tried a Nutbrown Ale the other night from a local brew-house.. tasted almost like a nutty chocolate bar
