I really hate sites that make such heavy use of JavaScript. Nevertheless, I turned JS on long enough to vote. It's easier and more efficient to create polls using Perl CGI scripts, I just wish more people would figure that out.

I can't even find us on the list. Oh well, I'm going to go do something now, like get some coffee.

                      Paul, you missed my point.

Here is an experiment for anyone to try who wants to. Using NS 4.7x, go into "Preferences/Advanced" and disable JavaScript. Now follow the link to the PCstats site. It'll look like crap, I can garauntee it. They make heavy use of JavaScript throughout their site, including for the polls.

The result is that those of us who choose not to leave JS enabled, be it for speed reason, security reasons, whatever, can't properly view the site. I personally do not believe that JavaScript is needed to make a "good" site. Unfortunately, it seems to be the reigning web design philosophy of the day. The more whizbangs you can add to the site, the better it is.

The real problem is that people just don't think about compatability anymore. But anyway, this really isn't the place for this rant. It's just something that has been bothering me for a while. I code all of my HTML by hand, in Notepad, and conform precisely to the HTML 4.0 Strict DTD. That way, if something doesn't display right in a given browser, it's not my fault. Meanwhile, sites like PCStats, who don't conform, or make extensive use of of glitz, are at fault for not having made the site correctly in the first place.

                      Anyway, I'll stop ranting now.
