Release schedule as of last time I read it:

The Fellowship of the Ring, December 2001

The Two Towers, December 2002

Return of the King, December 2003

The Fellowship date is hard set, as it says this winter. It may be out as early as Thanksgiving in the US, but December is the more likely date.

There are rumors however, that The Two Towers may be pushed back to summer 2003 and Return to Summer 2004. That is unlikely though, because ALL of the primary filming for ALL the movies is already done. Only special effects, folly work and toush up filming remain.

I've heard the opposite rumors as well - that since principle photography is already done, the movies will be moved up to:

Thanksgiving/Christmas 2001
Summer 2002
Thanksgiving/Christmas 2002

hey, the network administrator at Weka (the cgi company doing LOTR) is an ex girlfriend of mine.

Not all the filming is done. Most of it, and all the important stuff, but they still have camera crews flying all over the country taking senery shots etc.

Rebecca (the ex) is using a $20,000 SGI machine as a desktop, because its too slow for the rest of the render rack. Hows that for cool.

I think you will find it will be released at xmas time, because all countrys will be released at once. Only america (as far as I know) have thanksgiving.
