• How bad is your public transport

Well if I walk to work it takes me forty minutes. If I drive it takes 15 minutes. The last time I caught the Bus it took me thirty minutes and that was because the I caught a bus that was late. The bus don't go near the place I work which is ten minutes from the centre of town. Buses also tend to be late and also tend not turn up. At one time the bus stop and timetable used to change every week. That seems to have stopped however Sheffield council have got a bright idea of demolishing the central bus station (Instead of building it up) and spreading all the stops through the city centre.
Looking at the times it seems when it's raining it's best to take the car.

What about repetedly forgeting to send out a extra bus when the local school is sending a couple of classes that way 60+ kids and teachers?

The bus usualy has a limit of 57 people

The buses here come fairly regularly, from every 5 minutes at peak times on important routes to every half hour at night on not-so important routes - the average bus comes every 10-15 minutes, which is fine with me, as they are quite on time

We have... I dunno... a few dozen bus lines, ~half of our buses are double deckers, and most buses are for up to ~100 people, but they can get quite crowded at times

Add to that a dozen underground lines, about as much tram lines, some street car lines, and some fast regional trains which come every half hour and bring you from the outer districts into the city in under 15 minutes. It can take up to one and a half hour to reach your destination though, just because berlin is quite big and sometimes you need to change lines and have to wait...

The only grief I have with them is that they are quite expensive (~4 Euro for a two-hour ticket, ~60 Euro for a month ticket, students pay ~30 Euro per month, which is OK) and at 3am it can sometimes take a while to get home

Here in Japan the train system is fantastic, its also the primary transport for most people in the cities. I forget which trainstation it is, but one of them has about 3,000,000 commuters pass through it a day. If the train schedule says it leaves at 11:37, its going to damn well leave at 7:37 whether you've managed to get in and impersonate a sardine or not. The only exceptions are, heavy snow, mechanical failure or (and sadly this does happen) the occasional suicide.
The bus system is pretty good and tends to only run late if there is heavy traffic.

Ours here is getting better by the year. They are constantly expanding their light rail service. But that's not in my part of town, and I still can't get from here to work without taking a 2hour city-wide tour (and it's only a 5-min drive)...so for me personaly, it still sucks

From my apartment balcony where I used to live, I watched two council buses get pulled over for speeding about 2 minutes apart. The first bus was sitting there for about 10 minutes - the cop was giving him a good talking to.

Plus I've seen buses run red lights before.

Busses running Red lights.
My sister got a head injury from that. The bus she was on the driver decided that the red light didn't apply to him went through and bang and her head hit the steel bar in front of her. She settled out of court for about 20 grand. Despite having bad headaches for six months she carried on working if she went to court I think the bus company would have had a nice time showing video's of her going to work.
The best part of it the driver said in court that "The light was red I saw the other vehicle but I thought I had plenty of time"
The judge sort of sat there stunned at the lack of Brain cells and then went ballistic from what I hear. This part of the court hearing was deciding who was the guilty party it didn't last long after that statement. I wonder how much the other driver got off the bus company.

Well.. our public transport (especially trains) rather sucks.
I commute by train to get to work and allmost every week, I'm having some sort of delay and getting late for work or my evening is ruined because of a delay.
Shortage of traincars and -engines is another large problem: especially when something's happened in the order of an accident or a simple delay without reason, you know you end up crammed like sardines on the balcon (seats are allways taken when I manage to board the train ) for at least an hour, rendering you completely pooped when you finally reach your destination.

They came up with some sort of "get some of your money back on a 30min+ delay"-service. This means in my case that I'm eligable for €4,50 on a 30 minute delay, and €9,- on a 60+ minute delay.
If these delays continue, I probably receive about €60 a month for the delays I'm having. Money is fun, but I'd rather be on time.
The path I walk alone is endlessly long.
It's 30 minutes by bike, 15 by bus.
Puni puni poemi

It sucks...

There is no bus that gets me into town a reasonable time before 9am, so I have time to get to work. In fact, last time I checked there were about 3 buses each way everyday (cept Sunday, don't think there are any then).

It takes the bus 40 minutes + to do a 15 minute tops journey. If I want to get the bus and be at work by 9, I have to catch one at 7:30, and get to work about 8:20.

The bus home leaves at ~6pm, so thats 6:40 before I'm home...

Or I could take my car, leave for work at 8:40 (over an HOUR later) and get home by 6pm easily...

Yet our 'government' taxes the crap out of me for using a car and tells me to use public transport instead.

I'll use public transport when its as convenient as taking a car...
