I had another scary experience on the roads last weekend....

Flying down the M4 on my way to wales, it was about 8 or 9PM, relatively poor light, and going at around 90MPH. The car in front of me happened to be over to the left hand side of the right hand lane (overtaking/fast lane) and swerved a little. I didn't think much of it - thinking he was on the mobile phone or something, then suddenly, I see in my lane was a lorry's blown out tire!! I was over to the right hand side of my lane, and, well, I now know that my car has pretty good handling at 90MPH - I swerved round the tyre, entering the lane to the left, and back again within a second.... that scared me!

Actually, in most of the USA, speed cameras don't hold up in court. They can be used in conjunction with other things to make a better case...

But you have to get the ticket in person.

It's a strange technicality. They can monitor you using the speed camera, and use it to alert a cop. The cop can then pull you over, issue a ticket, and it's legal.

But if you aren't personally pulled over by the policeman, the ticket is garbage.

Moving violations can't be mailed to you.

But, I hear you saying, what about those "speed monitored by aircraft" areas?

      Fight the ticket. You'll win.

      What about photo radar?

      Fight it. You'll win.

      What about toll booth cameras?

Fight it. You'll win. WHY do you think there are a dozen cops sitting after the toll booth? Because they HAVE to pull you over.

Now, individual states may have changed these rules around. But where I have lived for the past few years (PA and MA) it is still this way.

There have been a few with cars and one motorcycle incident requiring some stitches. But the worst personal injury was when I got struck by a car at age 10. I was riding my "pedal" bike on a busy street and used a hand signal to denote a left turn. A driver in a car behind me tried to beat me around the turn and struck me.

I remember flying through the air, seemed pretty high and then it was lights out. I awoke on my back to people standing all around me, and my left leg was bent in a real strange way. I tried to get up and couldn't repeating "I have to get home," but they held me down.

Someone said an ambulance was coming and another said they called my Mother. The guy that hit me kept saying I'm so sorry. I ended up in the hospital with a high femur break near the hip. Was in traction for a spell to get it all aligned, then ended up in a body cast up to the chest. No fun at all.

It was toward the end of the school year so I got tutored at home and spent a portion of the summer on my back and finally in therapy to get my leg to bend at the knee again.

Priceless moment was when a buddy came over and we started harassing my older brother. He ran my buddy out of the house and carried me in the body cast out into the back yard. I crawled back to the house, pounded on the back door and convinced him he better get me in before Mom and Dad got home.

        Edit: "pedal" bike, no motor.

Just remembered this one. Driving back home from Bucks past Silverstone there had been a bike meeting. No bikers after being there get a bit carried away. So heres me bombing along in my old XR2 on a nice twisty section with nice high hedgerows so you can't see whats coming. The road bends to my left so I'm close in striaghtening the curve when suddenly from the other direction comes a Biker leaning right over on the centre line body and most important head well over on my side of the road. I was doing fifty he was doing fifty plus and his head passed one inch past my wing. If he'd hit, his head would gone flying many a mile. I bet he took his leathers off and got the shit out a few yards later.
By the way a friend of mine hated Motorcyclists eventually found out why. He was driving through London and stopped in queue a Motorcyclist hit the car in front of him head on. Somersaulted into the windscreen chopped his head off and landed headless on the bonnet of my friends car. The driver in front was still sat with helmet with the head still in it on his lap.

Just had a Police car trying to get himself killed. Striaght through a red light no siren on down the wrong side of the road. What an idiot. Two seconds later he'd have wrapped round my car.

Driving my little mini from my digs to drop of an ex girlfriend....

a cracked exhaust leaked carbon monoxide into the cabin... I must have started to doze off and the next thing we knew we were upside down... engine still running, petrol (full tank - about 4 gallons) running onto the road (NEVER EVER use a temporary filler cap!!!).... I smoked at the time and couldnt remember if I had a ciggie lit at the time.... we had to climb out through the front winscreen and wriggle round the bonnet (warm orl now spilling out... The old mini wasnt the same after that had to scrap her.

problem was that we were now about 20 miles from civilisation (no phones) and my ex had glass driven into in her head.... the next car came about 15 minutes later and skidded on the petrol (no casualties) but the bloke helped me right the car and pull it over into the ditch....

He got the police and an ambulance (one from the hospital where me and the ex were working at the time)

could have died three times that night!

once in the flip, once by burning and once by the other guy!!!

I didnt get a scratch, but it made me a dam sight more careful (and a careless driving rap...)

                Red
                Tired at home....
Dont just swallow the blue pill.
