1. The big bookcase is MOSTLY filled with baby books... and the overflow whilst we were rearranging the OTHER bookcases. That room USED to be MY room... hehe. Had to find a new home for two guitars, three PC's (one has been sold and the other taken offline for the time being), a gajillion books, and the second stereo (got integrated with the first one for now). Yikes!
2. The cats are fine. Not only did we test negative for toxoplasmosis, but it mainly affects outdoor cats and cats that come into contact with other cats. However, I have been on litter box duty since the day we found out Julie was pregnant. We're fine. Cats also make very good playmates for kids. Especially cats as tolerant as mine. The claws will have to be kept extra short, though. Actually, most people we've talked to say that their cats wanted NOTHING to do with the kid itself. Loved the nursery (lots of soft things) but once the kid showed up and put its stink on everything... hehe. We'll see though, if it's a problem at all the cats will live in the basement.
3. Size. We had NO idea. He's 2 days overdue. Just two. And that's based not only on due-date but ultrasound dating. We blame all the good food Julie ate during her pregnancy. She only gained 20 pounds overall, and lost ALL of that during delivery (and then a bit). She was basically on a diet without starving herself. Exercise, fruits and veggies, and healthy dinners... although that tended to mean a lot of steak and potatoes... but hey those are healthy in moderation. But she gave up caffeine and alcohol, we avoided even the sligtest secondhand smoke, and she even cut way back on carbonated beverages. (Note to those considering being pregnant around new years... non-alcoholic champagne tastes NASTY).
4. Julie's state of health. Well, she had a level 4 tear. That's BAD. The worst tearing you can have. They spent longer stitching her up than she spent pushing (she only pushed for about 15-20 minutes!). She's very sore, and on a couple different medicines. We will have to see by August 1 if there are any lasting problems (most of which can be dealt with nowadays - ain't modern technolology wonderful like?), but we're of course praying for the best.
5. And then of course there's the problem with arranging the appropriate ceremonies and services. We honestly didn't think we were going to have a boy, although in the two days before the delivery we were both dreaming about a baby boy. Hehe. But now I have to find a mohel and rabbi... or at least a rabbi (mom wasn't Jewish so the technical requirements to have a mohel do the actual deed are relaxed) and a ped. surgeon... urk! (Try telling the people at the hospital that YES you would like your child circumcised but NO not today - it has to wait till next Thursday. They get a little bent out of shape...)
6. He's a little angel. He honestly is. He's great. He cries to let us know there's something wrong, and if we fix whatever it is he'll just sit there contentedly looking at us and grabbing for my fingers (or hair, or whatever body part passes closest - nose, eyeball, whatever). Very expressive. And no matter WHAT anyone says about what babies can and can't do right away, he can already watch me from several feet away. (Happens a lot in my family according to my mom... early spatial recognition.)
Ok, I could babble all day about this. There are more pictures to look at (only a few more) on the web site, and more will be coming once we get him home tonight. I have to finish this cup of coffee and get back to the hospital. I got a good night's sleep, but I can hardly say the same for Julie.
TTFN!
- Gurm
P.S. Any wisecracks about the name will be dealt with by mass e-mailing of baby photos. If I hear one more person saying "Why not O'hare Gandalf, or LAX Gimli", I'm gonna scream.

Listen up, you primitive screwheads! See this? This is my BOOMSTICK! Etc. etc.
The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!
I'm the least you could do
If only life were as easy as you
I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
I would still get screwed
Congratulations, Gurm and Julie!! I have no desire to tease you about Logan's name at all-- I was named for a book that my father was reading when I was born (early) as well (Breakfast At Tiffany's)-- but I do wonder if Logan is for Wolverine or someone else.
My name turned out a bit better than it was scheduled to be (Jamie), but I think that you should prepare yourself for Logan demanding to be "Logan A." as soon as he gets old enough ....
I think you should leave some of those (non-kiddie) books in the room so you'll have something to read if you are up all night keeping Logan company . Just play nice classical music on that big 'ol boom box .
Extra special congratulations to Julie!!! How long was her labor? And isn't there a interesting story about what you or she were/was doing when the process started? Or humorous hijinks somewhere along the way?
You have to practice the tale so you can tell Logan later, so you might as well start with us !!!
Congratulations and may your family grow in joy daily!
Congrats from San Diego ! Not sure which country your in and health care plan, but hope your child is and stays in good health and you have a good health plan wherever you are. I hope you slept well in the previous months
