  • Goodbye Matrox...

... I just promoted my 2 years old G400DH to my drawer. I've bought the Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 64MB based on the Kyro2 chipset and I'm very impressed. Finally fluid games, even on 1280x1024x32bit and TV-out quality is equal to that of Matrox, it's even better because it doesn't has a performance hit like on my G400... And it drives perfectly a Nokia 446XPro screen at 1280x1024@90Hz, even 1600x1200 is equally sharp as my G400.

I only can recommend this card to every Matrox G4xx user! Unless you really need that handy DH thingy I never really used, just showed...

Price here is equal to that of the G450DH 32MB.

    w00p!

    Yea, cool, congratulations!

And thanks for letting us know about this, we'll all look into it.

And is DH = DualHead? I don't really know much about it, other than Haig said its featured in DualCondor

That KyroII board is pretty nice.

It wasn't my purpose to upset people here, I'm a murcer since the very beginning of this site but I wasn't active on the forum. I posted this because most Matrox users are looking for quality in a 3D card and I am surprised the Hercules delivers a much better/sharper image at high resolution than the regular GforceMX board.

And since the KyroII chip stands above Gforce boards (even GTS) when all quality settings turned to high, in 32 bit mode, on high resolution with FSAA enabled it's just what I wanted.
            Here's proof:

45.7 fps vs 32.1 fps at 1024x768@32bit with FSAA, it's just the border between playable or not.

Only possible drawback is the lack of T&L but since there're still no games really having a major profit from T&L it's a non-issue for me. And I don't believe it will do in the near future (say the next couple of years).

People who're 'investing' in 3D cards like the GForce3 are wrong in my opinion, I learned NEVER to invest in computer hardware as it changes too fast (speed and price), just buy what you need at that moment.

              Sig says all...

I still miss my G400 for a couple of things, though

If I had horsepower to notice the gain, I´d also buy a Kyro II... but for my computer, a G400 is enough, I guess.

You didn't upset me, as I'm not interested in it

If I can afford a separate gaming rig then I'm sure I, along with most MURCers, would put a Kyro 2 in it. But I can't, so I'm stuck with my combo workstation/home PC/games machine (oh, and a nice server too admittedly ).

It's just that we already know about the Kyro II, and if you're as much of a lurker as you say you are you'd know our opinions about the Kyro, and you'd know why some of us stick with Matrox, and some of us have switched.

At least you somewhat redeemed yourself in your follow-up post, but it never ceases to amaze me how many people seem obliged to tell us they've replaced their Matrox card with something else (though if the something else is a G800 you can post all you want )

Some Matrox users use (Matrox) products for their 2D.
