• What do you think?

Well, pretty obvious ... i`d like your opinions on these pics ... rendered with mental RAY, modelled in MAXr4

Realism, prettiness, suggestions ... all welcome ...

Wow omega! Did you do those? They look great! I wish that I could do stuff like that.

Were you just messing around or is this for some kind of contest?

You said that you were looking for sugestions. I could not even begin to duplicate your work, but if you are LOOKING for opinions I have a couple.

The shadows struck me as being a little too crisp for going through glass. They would be a little less defined I would think. Also the shadow doesn't travel up the wall naturally. It kind of looks like it is layered (is that a word?) over the picture in the one with the checkerboard background. In that same picture the checkerboard in the background is as fuzzy as the reflection in the table. It looks like it is in the distance, but the shadow and reflection pull it up to look like it is connected to the table. If this is the case it seems like it should be in better focus. The reflection of the pattern in the table looks great. The one with the stucco wall in the background looks really good to me. The shadow of the glass is the only thing that looks out of place (again it seems too ""crisp").

Please don't take this as overly critical, but you ASKED for input, right?

Even if you left them as is they look great! I envy people with the talent to do artsy stuff like that. Good work!

Very Nice...

I can do stick figures in paint... that is about it..

But some suggestions from me.

1) Checkerboard wall blurry? If its supposed to be blurry... make sure to blur the checkerboard reflection on the table as its really defined in the reflection.

2) Soften the shadows... there is way to much detail in them.

But like Kindness said...

Very impressive.

What'd you render them with? Reminds me of the good old days when I'd spend hours making all sorts of neat 3D renderings on an Amiga.

[edit]
Duh... prehaps I should read the text of your message to see what you rendered them with...

Wow!
Very nice.
Only thing I can see is that the front ice cube on glass1 is floating too high.
Makes me thirsty.

Glad you guys liked them ...

Kindness, thanks for the input ... i really posted them so that anyone could see and give me suggestions ... i`ll redo the shadows and make another render.

The Checkerboard is supposed to be blurry. If you look at the reflection on the table you`ll see its blurry too ... anyway that was the first render ... but i guess i should lower the reflection value on the table ...
I changed the wall material with stucco, i like it too, and lowered the Ice cubes so they`d float naturally ...

Keep checking this, i`ll add some more renders.

BTW Kindness, this is for fun only ... just trying out mental RAY renderer ... i LOVE it

Got an erreur 404... silly French sites.

Copied one of the above links and changed it to glass2 ... the shadows look lots better now. More to the dimension of the glass as well.
Plus I like the shadow rim (sp?) and the reflection of the glasswall in the other side of the glass. My compliments !!

One thing though... What is the liquid in the glass? It's brown, yet I can see the 2 front ice cubes clearly, but not the bottom of the glass.

Jord,
Surely it's clear like vodka.
That is the table's color you are seeing.

omegaRed,
It looks to me like the blurring effect has lost some of the wood grain that could be seen through the glass.
Can this nice detail be re-emphasized?

Clear as wodka? Then where is the bottom of the glass?

Jord,
I'll do an experiment tonight & see if I can find the bottom of a glass or two.

I'm going to take a wild stab at things, but I think the bottom of the glass needs work. It's transmitting too much of the bottom surface up. And it should be more reflective, so that light shining into the glass bounces around the bottom and sides, and gives the kind of light that causes sparkle.

But, that aside, daaaaaamn, I wish I could do that.

WOW!!
Impressive work, omegaRED!!
I recently made a champagne glass using Ray Dream Studio 5. I was pretty happy with that rendering of mine, but not any more!!
Btw, the glass in glass1.jpg looked better to me, although the shadaow, background etc. in glass2.jpg is better.
Cheers

The ice cubes look like white paper sacks there..

And the liquid must be escher-ade because it is clear at the top where the ice cubes are and yet opaque at the bottom where it obscures the bottom of the glass. Actually, I liked the first ones better.

That being said, I couldn't even begin to do what you've done..
