  • Am I off my rocker?

I am downloading slackware 8.0 ISO's over a 56k dialup modem. At this rate I might have it by Wednesday

Am I off my rocker for even trying it?

PS. I really just want to try out having my own internet poll

Well, seeing as I have taken slackware even LESS seriously than any other flavor of Linux since... oh... about 2.0... YES, you're a nutbag.

P.S. Could have had the CD overnighted for less than the electricity to download it is costing you.

Im booking myself into a mental facility ASAP

Fortunatly, the waiting list here in Australia for any sort of advanced medicine is so long that I might actually have this ISO before they get me

At the moment, it is 116100K downloaded.

I decided to do download this ISO for many reasons:

      1) I like slackware. It doesn't suffer from most of the problems that other distros have. (or maybe it is because I fixed most of my problems by hand, and upgraded half of it)
      2) My ISP has decided to stop charging for bandwidth usage (I can download as much as I like). I haven't done a huge download in ages so I thought I better make up for it. Before, it would have cost me more than $60 in bandwidth costs to download it (at 11c per meg)
      3) Its novel. Sort of like proving it can be done.
      4) Real pain in the butt finding someone who has it to get a copy of it.

And besides, my computers would be on anyway

                  Downloadn slackware (cause I'm slack)

Actually I am using both a windows and a linux system to download it.

My mums computer (running windows 2000) is the computer that the modem is connected to. It runs internet sharing, and I am downloading to my linux box via it.

                  Update: 396600K downloaded

                        Not really cheaper

It would probably cost about $10-$15 to order the CD considering postage and other annoyances.

it is probably costing me to download it:

$1.50 for a cd to burn it to
$0 for bandwidth (cause it is free at the ISP I am with)
$2.00 in phone calles (approx 8)
$5.00 in electricity (at the very most) over normal computer usage

so that is $8.50 for the same cd.

Anyway, it is more funny this way

BTW. Downloading ISO's over 56k modem is like emptying a lake using an aquarium pump.

I was considering the cost of ordering it locally (from within perth)

The $10-$15 guess was considering getting it from a local source, rather that an offical copy from slackware itself.

I would like to get one of the offical copies one day, but lack of credit card and living in australia are formidable obstacles. I don't think I am ever gonna bother with the credit card. Too much hassle and I am not much of a internet shopper anyway.

Anyway download is now at: 428600K downloaded (65%)
