  • Are EBayer's mad or just uninformed?

I've been shopping around on EBay for a second hand Matrox card for my second PC, and naturally a Matrox has been high on my list.
I've come to the conclusion, that EBayers (or perhaps all regular aucton goers) are either mad, stupid or just plain uninformed.
Second hand G450's, recently removed from Dell PCs are selling for £60-70, excluding post and packaging. I can get one brand new for about £85 including P&P. G400's sell for about the same, and those can be had for £65 inc P&P.
People must go to these sites thinking "It must be cheap, its an auction!" and happily pay over the odds for second hand gear. Mad I tell you, they're all mad.

At least I managed to pickup an M3D for under a tenner and am chasing a Rainbow Runner for about the same.
Now all I need is a Mystique to replace my spare Millenium2.

EBay has become more of a rare/hard-to-find items auction than a bargin auction. uBid is more alond the lines of cheap stuff. SInce you buy stuff that's hard to find, or at least the people selling them think they are hard to find, you pay for it.

      eBay'ers are stupid.

      Plain and simple.

They pay more than retail for used items.

      Now THAT is sad.

If it goes over 75% of retail, for a NEW item, I'm not interested.

If it's a used item, I find the same item from a refurbisher or whatnot (pricewatch is good for that) and won't go over 75% of THAT price.

      People are just stupid.

Imagine the guy that agreed to pay $255 for a URL to buy a GeFarce3.

I think everything that has been said. stupid, mad, uninformed, you name it.
eBay was a nice place to find stuff and at a good price, but when they went public, that's when things got out of hand.
I was looking at a TOSHIBA DVD and the final bid was for $15.00 above what I found it for on pricewatch. The shipping was about the same. Very Dumb on the bidders part.
You can still find good buys on eBay, but you need to know what your doing before bidding.

One thing I've found EBay good for is finding small merchants, people who aren't big enough (or unwilling to be exploited) to get their stuff in the big name department stores. I got my girlfriend some cool handmade jewelry that way, and it's some of her favorite stuff.
