  • Bah! Online gaming sucks!

I've grown so tired of the kiddies and their little games. I've decided that pretty much all on-line games are a waste of time unless you only play around 3:00am when they're all sleeping off they drug induced psycosies. Between the hordes of cheaters that have destroyed what was left of the fun in Counter-Strike to the pitiful little grovling turds that inhabit Everquest KS'ing 15th lvl characters with their naked 51st lvl monks I've simply decided to give up and forget about there EVER being a really nice on-line game. Grrrrrrr........

Yes, I haven't played any CS in some time because of this. I still play TFC though, haven't run across too many cheaters yet.

I haven't played CS since I moved (modems suck, and outdoors rule), but it was getting pretty rough out there. I would usually try to play only on PunkBuster servers. You also tend to get a higher quality player on them, and I was tired of deagling the crap out of easy targets.
Also, I was an admin on my favorite server. We kept the peace pretty well, using _bury and _slay and _ban as needed. It got to be a very popular server, since human observation seems to do much better than anti-bot serverbots anyday.

Since upgrading I can now play Half-Life TFC again at a reasonable FPS.
Some nights I might as well bind a Key to say "EVEN THE TEAMS YOU LLAMAS!" - Especially in Dustbowl or Avanti. 10 Def to 6 Attack seems to be the norm.

I changed teams 4 times in one game to try and even them. At the end I forgot what colour I was supposed to be shooting at!

On the local cable CS server that I used to hang out at there was no admin ever on. Before I quit playing CS it had gotten to the point where there was almost always someone using an wallhack... it appears that RoadRunner/Cox in Wichita supports cheaters. The other reason I quit playing CS is that RoadRunner has oversubscribed the the node I'm on which has resulted in pings that creep over 500ms during peak hours (Yes, that's 1/2 a second), and of course they're too cheap to get off their butts and upgrade.

I don`t play CS, i play UT occasionaly online (56k, crappy ISP ... need more?) and i`ve encountered 3 or 4 AimBotters ...

It`s not like i get overly excited, we ( the non-cheaters ) start spamming him, then after i while i would say "I got yer IP sucker" or similar or challenge him to 1on1 and 100% of them chicken out and never come back.

CS is pretty much the only game I currently play online, little bit of HL too. I for one am pretty damn proud of myself when I pull a higher kill ratio than the people I know are cheating, which is why I really don't mind cheaters in the game. Nothing like repeatedly killing the guy that had a 47-0 kill/death ratio before you joined the server.

After months of intesive therapy, I finally broke my Everquest addiction. Actually it was a string of coincidents that did not allow me to play for 6 months, and so I cancelled my account and never returned, but the therapy sounds much better. EverQuest was fun, but people were starting to become pricks right before I stopped playing.

As for CS...I'm still hopelessly addicted to it. Sure I bump into cheaters every once in a while, but if you know what servers to go to, it's not that bad. You just need to hit servers were there is an active admin that doesn't tolerate cheating. My favorites are teh Daargoth servers. But they are midwest USA, so I don't think many MURC'ers can play on them with good pings.

There's always Diablo II. It's nearly impossible to cheat on Battle.net these days. Always good, clean, violent fun.

I play UT and Asheron's Call online. I've never noticed any cheating in UT and in Asheron's Call you really can't cheat, AFAIK. I've never heard of any cheating going on in AC.

Amish, the cheaters in AC are using GEAR, to help thier connection but it causes lag on the server to a small extent. The more that use it, the worse the server gets.....that is why the update for June had soo many issues, they tried putting in protection from it but it hosed the servers for a few days (remember?) and had to disable it to make the server playable again....

I only play TFC on-line these days.
And thats usually on the Matrox server.
And I have RCON on that server.

So, when a jerk or cheater shows up...BOOT!

No way to cheat in UT..

                              LOL!

As omegaRED was saying, there are aimbot users around that do this all the time. Fortunately there's now a mod for servers that can stop them, but it isn't foolproof- on one server in particular, I'd be playing along nicely, and halfway through the match, the thing would suddenly think I was using a bot, and BOOM, I'm dumped, and have to reconnect, losing all my frags, and not incidentally, my position in the current match.
