  • How long can M last with just 2d?

I'm really beginning to wonder, and its worring me.
Yeah, I've been kinda pissed off at them for their last 2 late and dissapointing cards, but seriously.. how long can they last just on the premise that they have good 2d?

Even low end home users and stuff get systems with cards with more 3d power than the G550.. hell, my MAX outperforms a G550 (pretty sad). Are OEMs going to put up with another mediocre performing card from M? I mean, the only real thing its got going for it is the dvi connector.

They should have a solotion to compete with ATI Radeon 8500 and Geforce3 Ultra within 6 months, og they will have problems geting OEM contracts!

In 6 month's I'd hope every current whiner personally performs castration for their impatience!

              Argggghhh (rant alert)

Just how many times have we gone through the "Matrox is releasing something great real soon now" routine.

I mean, what does anyone here actually know about matrox's future products? Does anyone know if matrox are even planning a new product yet (I would hope they are, but you never know what is happening inside of the heads that created "headcasting"). It is no good telling us to wait for something when there is no proof of its existance (I might as well go wait for me cows to come back home, dispite not having any.)

Perhaps if we go and start protesting outside of Matrox's headquarters (like the silly buggers who rally against economic conferences), it might have enough influence to get them to release a real card :-)

BTW, I really shouldn't be ranting at 1:30AM

BTW2, I am posting this on a G400, pretty good card still in 2D desktop work, and non-3d games.

It's still a good card in 3d games too.

I don't have any problems playing UT/Q3 at 1024x768x32bit res.

                    Ok in old 3d games

                    UT/Q3 are old games,

They were old when the G400 was released (ok, not very old)

I could say the Intel 740 card is good at 3d games because final fantasy 7 and quake 2 run well on it, but everyone knows it isn't very good at modern 3d games.

Well it's beginning to look like reviewers are beginning to look at display quality as well fps and if that trend increases you can bet Nvidea will do something about it. Matrox may then start to have some problems.

                        What modern 3d games??

I've run Black & White on it just fine as well.

                        I've also run Tribes 2.

It's too bad that both of those games suck so bad.

The G550 is a great card just not for hardcore gaming. And no one ever said it would be great for hardcore gaming. I know some people who still have G200s and the G550 would be a great upgrade for them.

Unfortunately those that could know anything wouldn't be able to say anything anyway. NDAs you know.
