  • Why are all the evil villains English?

Spun off from the movie poll -
Hollywood seems to have a habit of casting the villains as middle aged, upper class white Englishmen.
    Why?
And why doesnt Hollywood ever have Scots, Irish or Welsh villains? Surely these other nations have the capability to produce evil criminal geniuses too?

Because all the good actors are middle aged, upper class white Englishmen.
Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

That and "middle aged, upper class white Englishmen" are the only people in Hollywood that aren't afraid that playing a 'bad guy' will hurt their image. You'll never see Tom Cruise or the like play a bad guy. The only American actors that I could think that would do it is Mel Gibson and Nicholus Cage.

On top of that, when someone with a deep, sly British accent (or, so American's would call it), like Jeremy Irons, starts talking it just sounds...evil...

      Oh well...

PS - Impact, you need to find an Anime Music Video from a mix group called Otaku Vengence...the title is "Pokemon Bitches", it's hilarious.

I thought it was odd that Nazis and Romans always seemed to have British accents.

It's definitely the acting caliber. Takes WAY more ability to play evil than it does to play good.

Why? Because..........my heroes have always been cowboys..............

And there ain't no english cowboys!

But lets get serious. I would have to agree that the english actors do seem to be better and playing the villian. Alhtough I have seen some american actors do a good job. Just can't think of any names right now.

Plus there is the keeping everything balanced thing. The english have a super hero called James Bond. This will never go to an american actor. So Hollywood feels they have to make the english gents the villians.

SAMUEL L JACKSON AS SIR BOBBY CHARLTON!!!

In a grand tribute movie for the english hero.

                    WRONG!!

John Cleese as the Sheriff of Turley in 1985's Silverado. That movie had a cast to die for.

Sauel L. Jackson...now there's an American that can play one bad motherf****er. He's probably one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, as he can play more than just one character.

Another person that makes a great villian is Jet Li. He was an awesome bad guy in Lethal Weapon 4. In his next movie, The One, he's both the good guy and the bad guy. I'm excited already

Yup, Samuel L Jackson is one of my favorites. He was especially good in Pulp Fiction, Rules of Engagement, A Time to Kill and Unbreakable.

I just thought it was due to the fact that they have more practice at it, from childhood, and therefore better at it.
