NOT ...But where the hell did this rumor get started from?
Ripped from HardOCP:
Gotta love that rumor mill! Last week AthlonXPs were being recalled and this week Matrox is going out of business? We got a couple of mails pertaining to that and we thought we would nip this one in the bud first thing today. This is what Online Matrox PR Specialist Sebastian MacDougall has to say:
Matrox going out of business??? Not a chance, in fact we are doing comfortably sales wise considering, and I think that much of our current situation comes about due to the niche focus of our graphics cards and the fact that when budgets are constrained both in retail and business, users look to maximize their dollar spent, and from a productivity stand point we deliver arguably the best.
Also, we queried Sebastian about Matrox's return to the gaming board market and asked if they were still developing a high-end gaming solution.
Although high-end hasn't really been the Matrox order of business for a little while now, we certainly haven't given up on it at all. I think it is more of question of resources, timing and what the competition is up to. They're concerned with gaming and we're concerned with the not so sexy business and productivity side of things, but volume purchases are where the cash is at, and when the economy takes a hit, I think keeping focused on your distinctive competencies is the most important. But, we've got R&D guys working hard, and when the time comes you'll be hearing more from Matrox.
